Auckland – The Indian Mountain Women’s Flag Football Team is probably the only one discussed in North Jersey on a sports radio talk show.

This is not because the brave are the champion contenders. At least not yet. Last week, they still haven't won after losing to Fair Lawn 13-12.

It's not because sophomore quarterback Julia Dimasi looks like a budding star.

But when you’re the host of a talk show, you can talk about everything you want, and brave first-year coach Danielle McCartan doesn’t mind talking to the audience about the flag. In fact, talking about football is one of her biggest jobs as a host for WFAN and its affiliated radio stations.

“I was on a country (the exhibition), on the Infinite Sports Network, people would call from Texas and say they didn't know that flag football was like that,” McCarthy said. “I'm now saying that the Jets and the Giants are here (sponsored) the team, the Eagles have teams. It's big in the area. It's exploding. It's not even reaching its peak yet.”

    Call up

This is the fourth season of New Jersey Club Flag Football. When McCardin got the call, which was actually a text about becoming an Indian Hills coach, she spent the night at WFAN.

“I worked for the third night in a row and I got (Indian Mountain Basketball Coach) Julie Haledjian and she said I have to ask you something, and I thought, ‘I want to host a show, can you text me?’” McCarthan remembers. “She texted me my job and I couldn't fall asleep. I didn't have to think about it.”

The space will not allow us to list all McCardin's current roles/jobs. According to her count, there are currently four. Her main job is a teacher. But she wanted to be an Indian Mountain Flag football coach when she created the program, but she didn't have a chance. She knew she would find a way that would work for this.

“She is very serious about it,” Dimasi said. “She won't be a joke. She's coming to work right away, I'm very grateful.”

“I think it’s cool,” said Bella Rapp, a senior from Mount India. “She is responsible for what she is talking about. She knows what she is talking about. She is not from… golf. She comes from football. She has a good understanding of football.”

A few days after finding a job, McCarthy attended an event with Tom Coughlin Jay and chatted with Giants Super Bowl champion Kevin Boothe. McCarthy told him she was coaching flag football and Kevin said he was coaching his daughter in the same sport.

McCarthy said with a smile, “I said give me every effective play.” “He said jet sweep.”

Facing the quarter and against the Cutter, guess what is the running in Dushan? Jet sweep. It ends up being a few yards shorter.

    say

During the game, McCarthy behaves like any other coach. She praised her team for their good executions. She fussed with the officials and was even swung by the liar before halftime.

“I didn't know I was punished,” McCarthy said. “All he did was throw it away and say 'That's on you'.”

Indian Hills trailed 7-0 at halftime and then trailed 13-6 for 11 minutes but disappeared on the plus point. The Braves took the ball out with one minute left and drove along the field, but the last entry into the finish area was incomplete.

Her players think it's cool to have characters in sports media as their coaches. They seemed to like her and believe her. Some people follow her on Instagram (the final approval seal for 2025).

“She is an amazing sports announcer and has met a lot of people,” Rapp said. “She has to remember this season. She brings different energy to this team.”

“She's been to the Super Bowl and you have to be a big name,” Dimasi said. “She runs from other players. It's definitely helpful to us.”

There is nothing like a real world experience. McCardin can now look at any football coach in the United States and understand to some extent what it feels like to have a team experiencing a failed winning streak, what that means when the fourth game is underperforming, and how to keep your team focused on the right things.

“Failure in close range means you're in trouble with another team,” McCarthy said. “At the beginning of the season, we were blown up, which was tough for morale. When you go out and brag, you start questioning whether we do things the right way, whether we practice these dramas the right way, whether they work?

“It’s a huge improvement from where we started.”
