Zuzana Kirchnerová enters the "caravan" in Cannes, the upcoming "corpse"

Czech director Zuzana Kirchnerová may be heading to Cannes with a "caravan" but she has been shooting a miniseries in response to domestic violence - "with a very powerful female character" and has developed a new feature under the work title "Bodies."

She told type.

"I love it when you can 'touch' a movie. Every time I make a movie, I need to get intimate with its theme. It takes something I think about every day."

In her feature debut in the "Caravan", she was selected as a certain view - marking the first return of the formal choice of most Czech productions in more than 30 years - she decided to refer to her experience as a mother of a disabled child.

"I won't say I'm 'regret' to be a mother, not at all. I'm really happy to have kids, but sometimes, I'd love to escape and bring back my old life. In the past, it was hard for me to admit, even my closest friend or to my sister, or to speak out loud.

"There will be a lot of people who won't punish me for this, but they will comment on it. This is one of our last taboos. Of course, we have the idea that once you become a mother, you become a saint. Especially when it comes to children with disabilities. It's not happening to me. It doesn't happen. It doesn't happen.

In the movie, Ester and her teenage son David go out to Italy.

“When I started writing, I was a single mother with a disabled son and a second son who was just a child. I sat in Prague, in my room and realized: ‘I don’t want to make a frustrating movie’

"I want to make a movie and it will be happy, full of sunshine and color. I want something that can open the horizon and go beyond."

Imagine Anna Geislerová as the lead role, helping her get far from the story.

"This way, Este becomes more like her than me. Every character has a little bit of mine. I really like writing Zuza (they are new friends played by Juliana Brutovská Olhehová). She reminds me of my youth when I was with my friends, and I was like my friends when I was young. The Italian summer dreams were more playable. She."

She spent six months searching for David Vodstrčil as David.

"The most interesting thing is that he went to the same school with my son. I put him under my nose. I saw a lot of families and it was a good thing to some extent - they shared a lot of stories. Unlike his character, he was completely independent and without a doubt he didn't need communication, he didn't need help, he really needed to play the role, so he was with Anna.

Despite the ease and pleasure, Kirchnerová wanted to be honest - also about her protagonist's sexual behavior.

"I don't want to hide these aspects, and when we talk about the dignity of people with disabilities, we have to acknowledge their sexual behaviors, too. They are sexual, just like you and me. When they are small and friendly, we accept these kids. But once they become teenagers, they are hard. That's what we need to talk about," she said.

“If you are a mother of a disabled child, you are not allowed to feel happy or passionate. To me, sex means your energy. When Ester starts having an affair, it feels like she is saying, “I want to live.” I want myself.

This is a long way to make a movie. But Kirchnerová attributes his Torino Film Lab to what she believes can be done.

"In the Czech Republic, it's hard. Not because of the topic, but because I want to make movies in Italy. They may think it's too personal, even if I've never been on a trip like this and haven't raised many years of financing for many years. There are a lot of men who can't connect with the protagonist. Or, the movie should be more plot-wise, and I always ask, "Do you want me to go to Hollywood?"

Ultimately, the project was selected by Cannes "L'Atelier". Previously, Kirchnerová also won the Best Short Film Award in the Movie of the Movie of Dad. Now, she hopes that the "caravan" will keep people from being afraid to portray disability at work.

She said: "Fear may be the right word. People with disabilities are like everyone else. Zuza is a great character because she is not biased. She looks at David and sees a teenage boy instead of a diagnosis.

“For me, it’s about freedom. People push you into prison where you should be reality. Especially when you’re a mother, you should meet all these social expectations. Making this movie is like delivering the last “fuck”. Say, “Okay, now I’m going to do what I want.” ”

The "Cargoyle" was co-produced by Masterfilm's Dagmar Sedláčková with Nutroducia (Slovakia) and Tempesta (Italy). Alpha Violet handles sales.
