Zelestra has reached an agreement with Sungrow, marking a milestone in one of the largest battery energy storage systems (BES) in Latin America.
The collaboration aims to enhance the Aurora Hybrid project in Tarapacá, Chile, and Sungrow offers its advanced Powertitan 2.0 liquid-cooled Bess and MV power conversion units.
The BESS project has a storage capacity of approximately 1 GWH (GWH), which is a key component of the Aurora scheme, which also has a 220 MW Definition Condition (MWDC) solar plant equipped with Sungrow's 1+X modular inverter.
The initiative shows that Zelestra’s ability to tailor multi-tech solutions through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) (PPA) ensures reliable supply of solar power abused by Chilean companies.
"With this significant agreement, we have acquired some of the most advanced BES technology on the market to deliver one of the largest battery storage projects ever in Latin America. This is an important milestone for the Aurora project as we will promote this highly customized hybrid solution to meet the needs of our customers," said Leo Moreno, CEO of Zelestra.
Construction of the Aurora website is underway, and the project is expected to generate approximately 600GWH of renewable electricity each year.
The output will meet the annual energy needs of 200,000 Chilean households, which greatly promotes decarbonization efforts in the United States.
The Bass Unit is scheduled to be delivered starting in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Jack Gu, Vice Chairman of Sungrow, said: “We are honored to partner with the Landmark Aurora project with Zelestra to provide one of the most important hybrid projects in Latin America for our cutting-edge Powertitan 2.0 storage solutions as well as PV inverters.
“This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to accelerating the energy transition in Chile and the region as a whole, while ensuring a reliable, sustainable power supply for Chile’s homes. Together, we unlock the full potential of solar and storage to build a greener future.”
Zelestra has also successfully secured the portfolio of six solar PV projects in Spain, including the Belinchón and Brazatortas clusters.
The financial arrangement includes 21 PPAs and a premium debt package with a green financing worth 146.6 million euros.
BNP Paribas and Rabobank play key roles as chief orchestration, issuance banks and hedging providers of the request, while BNP Paribas also serves as Green Loan Coordinator.
“Zelestra Partners Sungrow aims to deliver 1GWH BESS project in Chile” was originally created and published by GlobalData-owned brand Power Technology.
