Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of "trying to buy time" to continue the war in Ukraine.
"If Russia continues to propose unrealistic conditions and undermine progress, it will surely have tough consequences," the Ukrainian president wrote on social media, adding that Kiev is ready to negotiate.
After a separate conference call with Zelensky and Putin on Monday, Trump said a truce between Russia and Ukraine would begin “immediately.”
Putin said he was ready to develop a "memorandum on a future peace agreement" but did not resolve the 30-day call for the fight.
On Tuesday, the Kremlin's proposal to end the negotiations downplayed the recommendations, with Russian state news agency citing spokesman Dmitry Peskov: "There is no deadline, no deadline."
Meanwhile, Zelensky launched a round of diplomacy to talk to Western allies in search of support.
After calling the Finnish president, Zelensky wrote on social media that Ukraine is working with partners to ensure that pressure on Moscow "forces Russians to change their behavior."
This is because the EU and the UK announced that they have introduced new sanctions against Russia.
The EU said nearly 200 tankers were blacklisted in Russia's "shadow fleet" and warned of a "stronger reaction" if Moscow disagrees with a truce in Ukraine.
The UK imposed sanctions on Russian military suppliers, energy exports and financial institutions as part of its packaging.
It was a record drone attack in Ukraine over the weekend, which Kiev officials called the largest since the start of a full-scale invasion.
On Monday, Trump said he would not join any new sanctions on Russia, telling reporters they could hinder recent progress.
This is a fierce battle that continues along the frontline, with Ukraine reporting 177 conflicts and claiming more than 1,000 casualties in Russia within 24 hours.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in a speech ahead of the EU ministerial meeting on Tuesday that Russia's continued attacks "more than the eloquent times we hear of verbal service."
"Putin is obviously playing time. Unfortunately, we have to say he is not interested in peace," he said.
So far, Putin has rejected a 30-day ceasefire joint Ukraine proposal, rejecting Zelensky's invitation to hold talks in Istanbul last week. Trump once proposed to attend talks if Putin was there, but the Russian leader refused.
The Kremlin had previously announced a temporary ceasefire, including May 8-11, which coincides with Russia's World War II victory celebrations. Kyiv refused to join, citing distrust and demanded an immediate and continuous cessation of hostilities.
A similar 30-hour truce during Easter showed a brief battle, even though both sides accused hundreds of violations.
Russia and Ukraine have been in war since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
