"Fire Island" actor Zane Phillips and "Traveler"'s Jelani Alladin will star in the 1980s queer porn thriller "Stranger on the Beach".
The official log line for the film reads Michael Schwartz ("Snatch") director and writes: "In 1983 in San Francisco, a mysterious killer targeted gay men. But Calvin just wanted to kiss that handsome stranger."
"Stranger on the Beach" will premiere worldwide at the New York Big Apple Film Festival in June. The cast is Juliana Aidén Martinez ("Grizelda"), Jack Falahee ("How to Escape Murder"), Nancy Lam ("Miss Saigon") and Perry Young ("High").
Schwartz said the film was inspired by 1980s noir films by David Lynch and Brian DePalma. "Studio movies of that era are often reveling in queer subtexts," he said in a statement Wednesday. "But, even between lines, queer people are often coded as dangerous. This projection has difficult consequences, and so is hiding identity. By centering on real queer voices - all of which can make things scary, sexy and weird - we set out to challenge the prejudice of characters and viewers who watch them."
"Stranger on the Beach" is produced by Andrew Carlberg ("Skin") and Nilou Safinya ("Julia Blue"). The film marks the third collaboration of Safinya's Eyes making here and Schwartz's "Ship on the Ship". The creative team also includes photographer Matthew Pothier ("Mutt"), editor Mike Patterson ("Bulldozer"), and consulting producers Nancy Hult Ganis and Sid Ganis. Executive producers include Erica Berger, Juliana Tyson Kissick and Ryan Kissick, Catherine Steiner-Adair and Fred Adair, and Madeline Levine & Lee Schwartz. The co-executed producers include Katie Vanderdrift and Edward King III. The co-producers are Ryan Connors and Rebecca Maar.
In addition to many of theatrical credits in "The Traveler" against Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey and his work, Alladin also appeared in the Netflix film adaptation of the Jonathan Larson musical "Tick, Tick…boom." Phillips recently visited in the new Hulu sitcom "Mid-Century Modern".
Alladin is rejected by Buchwald, Amplified and Goodman Genow Schenkman Smelkinson + Christopher, LLP. Phillips was rejected by BRS/GAGE Talent Agent and Prime Talent Media.
