Yankees Spring Training Note: Max Fried's First Live BP, What Aaron Boone Wants in Alternate Catcher

Yankees Spring training was conducted from Tampa on Saturday with the manager Aaron Boone Afterwards, I talked to the media and discussed many topics.

Here are the key things you know from Yankee Training Camp on Saturday:

The biggest explosionIt's the first live BP

During the offseason, the biggest Yankees acquisition, Fried threw his first live BP on Saturday, and Boone was impressed.

"Love his intentions, focus, compete. Things are really good. He's in a very good position," Boone said.

After the 2024 season, Fried came to the Yankees. Last year, he threw 3.25 ERA and 1.164 whips in 29 brave games and hopes to bring his elite weak contact arsenal to the already boastful rotation Gerrit Cole On top.

"He has a big arsenal. Looking at him as a batsman, it's a mix of court and action," Boone explained. "That fastball that cuts off naturally. He has a sinker that can be used with it Both sides of it come to work. He has a complete arsenal and is able to move his hands somehow on the ball, which is fun to see it."

What Boone wants in the backup catcher

There aren't many attractions to catch on the Yankees roster Austin Wells. There are a lot of experienced and inexperienced catchers who are invited to Yankee Camp.

Boone was asked during spring training what he was looking for in the second-place catcher, and it wasn't necessarily someone with major league experience.

"I think there are a few people who can catch (the scene)." Boone said. "I'm excited for the next wave of catchers who jumped off the page on (the scene bps) this spring... They all brought something, there's Different advantages and disadvantages, we will just let that play, honestly, over the next six weeks, it may continue to be used.

"How they connect to the room, how they stay in touch with the pitcher. How they hide their weaknesses...Nothing specific...I want the best guys to help us win the game when we go on March 27."

catcher Alex Jackson, Rafael Flores, Omar Martinez and Ronaldo Hernandez All are non-member invitations JC Escarra and Jesus Rodriguez It's already on 40 people.

Yerry de Los Santos A man worthy of attention

Another spot in the Yankees roster is in the bullpen. Jack Cousins Very sick and probably not ready for opening day, so one or two pitchers had a chance to start the regular season on the lineup – there seemed to be a special arm that caught Boone’s attention.

Boone was asked Saturday afternoon about invitational sessions for non-warehouses and whether anyone stood out. Long-term Yankees manager says he needs more time to evaluate, but Yerry de Los Santoshe threw his first live BP on Saturday to stand out.

Boone replied: "I love what I see, no doubt. There are a lot of interesting people to consider this year." "The De Los Santos we went to today is really nice. Sharp. On Triple- A made some real improvements in the last few months. Locked some of the courts. Today, I think his sinker, slider and split are all good balls for him. Order him how to think.

After a tough start to his minor league season, De Los Santos bounced back to 2.89 ERA in August and September (17 appearances) while earning four saves along the way . If this will continue into this spring, the 27-year-old may make his roster inclusiveness inevitable.
