WWDC 2025, Apple's annual developer conference begins at 10 a.m./10 p.m. ET. on Monday. Last year’s event was known for its focus on AI, and this year, the company’s commitments put a huge pressure on it.
As in previous years, the company will focus on software updates and new technologies, including the next version of iOS, which has had the most important design changes since the introduction of iOS 7. But iOS 19 (or 26, if other rumors about the new naming system are correct, it is not the only one the company has enjoyed on WWDC 2025.
This is how you can watch the keynote.
When Apple made a major overhaul of iOS when it launched iOS 7 in 2013, for many users, the shift from the previous Skeuomorphic Design made a gradient and real-world texture that shocked many users, reflecting the taste of Minimmalism by Apple's then-chief design officer Jony Ive.
Now, new reports suggest that an upcoming redesign may elicit similar levels of response.
The report suggests that the new design may have elements that reference Visionos, which powers Apple Vision Pro for the Apple Space Computing Headset. If true, this means that the new operating system can have a transparent interface and more rounded application icons that deviate from today's traditional square format.
According to Bloomberg, this visual redesign can be implemented in all Apple’s ecosystems, including Carplay, providing consumers with a more seamless experience that consumers move between devices.
According to Bloomberg, Apple will announce changes to the iOS naming system at WWDC this year. Apple's operating system will not announce the next version of iOS as iOS 19, but will be named by year. This means we can release the launch of iOS 26 with other products, including ADOS 26, MACOS 26, WatchOS 26, TVOS 26, and Visionos 26.
While news related to Apple Intelligence is the most important at WWDC 2024, the company is expected to share some updates on the AI side.
The company seems to have been firmly grasped in the AI race and announced AI features that have not been shipped yet, and even led some Apple Pundits to accuse the company of touting the evaporating device. Apple has launched several AI tools such as Image Playground, Genmoji, writing tools, cleaning photos, and more, but its commitment to improved Siri has been delayed to end users and the ability to take action on your app.
Meanwhile, Apple has turned to external companies like Openai to make its AI capabilities better for its iPhone. At WWDC, it can also announce support for other AI chatbots. With Jony Ive now using AI hardware devices with Sam Altman, Apple is under pressure to catch up with AI progress.
Additionally, the report suggests that Apple’s health apps may soon incorporate AI technologies, which may include health chatbots and generated AI Insights, an insight that provides personalized health-related advice based on user data. Additionally, according to 9TO5MAC, other applications (such as messages) may receive enhanced features with AI capabilities, including translation capabilities and polls, providing AI-generated recommendations.
Given its huge progress, Apple may make the most of smaller OS updates involving AI. Reports suggest that these updates may include AI-powered battery management capabilities and AI-powered shortcut applications.
Bloomberg confirmed a 9to5MAC report that says Apple is developing a dedicated gaming app that will replace the aging gaming center app. The app can include access to Apple Arcade's subscription-based gaming store, as well as other gaming features such as rankings, suggestions, and ways to challenge your friends. It can also integrate remote gaming with iMessage or FaceTime.
In addition to the new design, the report also suggests that Apple's other operating systems will also get some polish. For example, MacOS can also see new gaming applications and benefit from the new AirPods features. It is expected to be named Macos Tahoe in line with Apple's naming convention, which references California landmarks.
Apple TV may undergo a visual overhaul, but it will also change its user interface, new gaming apps, and other features.
In addition to news of getting translation capabilities, Bloomberg reported that Apple can also bring real-time translation language capabilities to its AirPods wireless Bluetooth earbuds, allowing real-time translation in conversations. The iPhone will translate spoken words in another language for the user and will also convert the user's response back to that language.
A new report from 9to5MAC also suggests that AirPods may get new head gestures to complement today’s ability to nod or shake their heads in response to incoming calls or messages. Additionally, AirPods may get the ability to automatically pause music after falling asleep, a way to trigger camera controls through touch, studio quality microphone mode, and an improved pairing experience in shared AirPods.
Apple Pencil has also reportedly received a new update that will benefit users who want to write in Arabic scripts. To cater to customers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and India, Apple is reportedly launching a new virtual calligraphy feature on iPadOS 19. The company can also introduce a two-way keyboard so that users can switch between Arabic and English on iPhone and iPads.
According to Bloomberg, there are no rumors about new devices, as there is no ready hardware available to release. While it's always possible that the company will surprise us with a new Mac Pro announcement, most reports say this is extremely unlikely at this point.
Some reports suggest that Apple can also announce support for its Vision Pro: Space Controller's new input device. 9to5mac said the devices will be sporty attractive and be designed for interaction in a 3D environment. In addition, Vision Pro can get eye scrolling support, allowing users to browse documents from both native and third-party applications.
Bloomberg reported in November that Apple is expected to announce a smart home tablet in March 2025, which includes a 6-inch touch screen and sound-activated controls. The device is said to include support for home control, Siri and video calls, but has not been activated yet. After Parker Ortolani of PMC discovered the "Homeos" application submitted by "Homeos", speculation Apple may unveil Software for WWDC equipment.
