Some small business owners in Wiltshire say cash transactions are favorable - the government says companies will not be forced to accept for the moment.
Bradley Buechel runs a coffee shop in Chippenham and says they have a lot of people who want to pay in cash: "It's great for us. We encourage it."
Some people worry that the inability to pay in cash will affect vulnerable people.
A report from the Finance Committee this week no longer recommends that law changes force businesses to accept cash, but says the government must improve monitoring of the problem.
Mr Buechel runs the Nest Coffee Shop in Chippenham, as well as the tire business in nearby Melksham: “Cash is actually better because there is no transaction fee.
"I think it's good for the society with cash. There's a huge demand for that."
However, one problem with small businesses is that when many branches disappear from towns, they must deposit cash into the bank.
Becky Lyons owns the Pawesome Pet Shop and says that card usage may vary by month, but payments with cards are usually the most popular.
But, she said people notice that you need cash when electronics collapse.
"I'll accept any legal tenders - I won't tell people how to pay for their merchandise," she added.
Richard Tidmarsh runs a recruitment agency and stroll business - he said the use of cash is “small” and is mainly used for dog walking.
"We have built a system that can cover both. It will always be useful."
Susan and Wayne Thirwell are Chippenham local residents and shoppers - both of whom say they use very little cash.
When they do this, it's usually a taxi.
"If I provide any tips, then cash. The convenience is great," Susan said. Speaking of cash is perfect for budgets.
The Finance Committee's report was published on Wednesday, calling on the government to "significantly improve" the monitoring and reporting of cash acceptance levels.
Otherwise, it warns of the risks of people being excluded – for example, in leisure centers, theaters or public transportation.
"There may be a period of time in the future when appropriate safeguards are not implemented for those who need strength cash, it is necessary for HM Treasury to require cash acceptance."
