Why do Liverpool fans boo Trent Alexander Arnold vs Arsenal?

Carl Duffy, 41, played with his daughter at the main booth and said they both booed the introduction of Alexander-Arnold.

"We booed it down to many things, some of which are isolated situations that make this different, but combined together always leads to it."

"Trent claims to be a local lad whose dreams come true and has been talking about watching the 2005 Champions League trophy back home from his home in Queens. His idol is Steven Gerrard. Everything about him screams "He's the same as us."

“We identified with him and he realized our dream. For us, it was not bigger than Liverpool and was part of it.

"There is nothing bigger in our minds than Liverpool, and that's the way here. It feels like betrayal, a backstab, like everything said before isn't really real, or at least not as real as it is portrayed."

Duffy is not worried about the loopholes in Alexander-Arnold's export leaves on the team, but says it's hard to accept emotionally.

"We lost big players before we were like Michael Owen (to Real Madrid in 2004) - the second year we won the Champions League, so history tells us not to cry for losing players," Duffy said. "The hurt and emotion behind it is the killer, not the loss of the right back.

"I think if Alexander-Arnold does anything to him, he will sign a new deal with Real Madrid, saying £40m and saying: 'I'm not going to cheat Liverpool out of money. If Madrid wants so much for me, they'll pay that.'"

Richard Davis, 50, also forgave some supporters' boos against Arsenal.

"Alexander-Arnold is widely known as the local lad for Liverpool fans," he said. "Most of my fans and I can't even begin to imagine how amazing he would be in his place, so where is the respect for the 'his' club?

“If you really like clubs and have to care, why do you have to sign a contract over the past year or so to make sure that the club has invested in the past 20 years to turn you into a superstar investment that you have become?

"No one is going to change their lives for Liverpool, and go somewhere else if they want, but go the right path. Go respect and some lessons. Be honest and straightforward, don't play clubs, don't play this 'will I? Will I?" The game he's been playing with them.

"I'm a fan, and that really means more. Alexander-Arnold would be a club legend if he stayed. He might be the top 10 Liverpool players of all time for most fans - but I think the legacy is gone now and he's really upset.

"We will always be grateful for the contribution he has made. It's great to have such a contribution, but the way he left a very sour taste in his mouth that will linger in memory for a long time."
