Once the playoffs are over, the Brooklyn Nets are about to enter the 2025 NBA offseason to prepare for the 2025 NBA draft and free agent. Brooklyn has five draft picks in the upcoming draft, including four first-round picks, but their summer portion will be spent deciding who will be part of the 2025-26 team, except for rookies.
The Nets are expected to be the most cap space in the league so far, as they can have up to 12 players who can become free agents in the upcoming free agent cycle. With players like D'Angelo Russell, Cam Thomas and Ziaire Williams approaching free agents, it's possible to play for another team next season, Brooklyn may have plenty of room on the roster.
Time will tell how motivated the Nets are in the free agency and whether they want to maximize the amount of block space entering the 2025 offseason. Having said that, here are the players who will sign a contract in the 2025-26 season, assuming there are no other changes from now until the regular season:
Claxton is about to release a season, in which his numbers are stable but far from what he did on his team in the previous two seasons. Clarkston averaged 10.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game while shooting 56.3% from the field and 51.3% from the free throw line.
Johnson is in his best season of his career as he is outside shooting and showing his full skills. Johnson averaged 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 47.5% from the field and Deep shot 39.0% from the field. Johnson earns close to $20 million a year in trading, which will be the value of Brooklyn moving forward.
Clowney has shown some hope this season, how much his 3-point shooting percentage has increased under the guidance of first-year head coach Jordi Fernandez. While Clowney shows that he can play with Claxton due to shooting, the former Alabama crimson tide also shows that he still has some areas of improvement in the game, especially as he drives the edges and physics of paint.
Whitehead played 20 games for the Nets this season as he spent most of his campaign on Long Island, continuing his development and bringing his representatives to the G League. While Whitehead hasn't performed well at the NBA level so far, he's one of the most recent first-round picks in the Nets and may see more game time next season if the team promises to move forward to players.
Lewis, whose mid-season trade this season comes from the Los Angeles Lakers, showed signs of some influential players. Overall, Lewis averaged 5.3 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, while the field shot 42.2% and 38.0% behind 3-pointers for a limited time. He should see more game time next season.
Similar to Lewis, Evbuomwan played in the team mid-season as the Nets signed a two-way contract. Evbuomwan was one of the most surprising surprises of the season as his scoring and mature presence immediately had an impact as he averaged 9.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 42.7% from the floor while Deep scored 31.2% from the field.
