Sean Curran, the head of President-elect Trump's private Secret Service security division, is expected to become the agency's next director.

"President Trump will appoint Sean Curran, who oversees his personal affairs, as Director of the Secret Service," Donald Trump Jr., the president-elect's son, announced on Friday.

"Sean is a great patriot who will stop all the madness once and for all. There is no better person for this position!"

Curran was among a group of heroic agents who rushed onstage to physically defend Trump during an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, that left two people dead and the candidate's ear injured.

Curran appears next to Trump in a series of photos that show the former and future president standing up with blood streaming from his face and raising his fists, prompting cheers from the audience.

Three bystanders were shot. They were firefighter Corey Comperatore, 50, who died from his injuries. David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, both survive.

Afterward, Trump praised the members in personal detail and defended them from criticism.

"Trump wanted someone he could trust, and they obviously had a bond after Pennsylvania," said Bill Gage, a former Secret Service agent under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

"Even if Butler made all the mistakes, they came from the advance team. The agents assigned to Trump and Curran performed exactly as trained."

Curran keeps a low profile but is often photographed standing next to Trump.

He even has followers on TikTok.

The assassination of Trump led to intense scrutiny of the U.S. Secret Service and the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.

Ronald Lo Jr. succeeded her as acting director.
