Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D-Mich).
Jon Favreau, a speechwriter for former President Barack Obama, asked Whitmer if he was in a "constitutional crisis" in a social media clip released Wednesday - a day after she greeted Trump on the Michigan tarmac before she spoke to members of the National Guard.
“We are,” Whitmer said. "I don't think anyone is above the law. I think we have a government that blatantly violates court orders that should scare everyone. It's a very serious moment."
Since Trump returned to the White House about 100 days ago, Democrats have described the country's current political moment as a "constitutional crisis." Although Whitmer warned that Trump's "dangerous" tariffs on Michigan's auto industry would provide relief to voters affected by the ice storm, the Democratic governor and 2028 presidential candidate have been more diplomatic than her colleagues in the past 100 days.

He threatened to illegally freeze federal funds for Michigan public schools because he has done so in Maine as Gov. Mills spoke at a meeting. Favreau challenged Whitmer in a subsequent social media clip released Wednesday.

"I haven't had a direct conversation on this issue yet, but I'm not afraid to do that," Whitmer said.
“When you attend events with him or meet him, isn’t it worth speaking out for the rights and freedoms of these people?” Favreau asked, explaining the criticism Whitmer faced for his treatment of Trump.

"Whenever I have a chance, I cover many different issues every minute. So, I think it's a very important issue. No doubt. No doubt. No doubt whenever I have the chance to make sure I cover up as much of my as possible. No doubt," Whitmer said.

Back to the issue of the “constitutional crisis,” Whitmer said, “many of us are fighting the battles we can fight, but it is the court that should “have the last word.”
"I hope we finally see some backbone among some Republicans in Congress to stand in court to execute their orders. There are a lot of people who are not doing their own jobs to protect the foundations of this country."
