The White House slammed Tuesday Amazon It is reported that President Donald Trump's tariff costs are displayed next to the total price of the product on its website.
"This is an hostile and political act of Amazon," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters.
"When the Biden administration rose to its highest level in 40 years, why didn't Amazon do that?" Levite asked.
"This is another reason Americans should buy Americans," she added.
Stocks of the online retail giant founded by Jeff Bezos fell more than 2% in listing trading after a speech.
Amazon did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt published a news article about Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos at a daily press conference held in the White House Brady Press Room in Washington, D.C. on April 29, 2025. Today is the first 100 days of US President Donald Trump's second term.

The Trump administration’s active slide was in response to a report from Punk News on Tuesday morning, saying Amazon will soon show consumers the cost of an item coming from tariffs.
People familiar with the plan told the news media that the amount increased due to the tariff will be displayed next to the total listed price for each product.
A reporter at a press conference on Tuesday asked Leavitt and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent whether they agreed that Amazon’s move was “clear demonstrations proved that it was American consumers, not China, and they would have to pay for these policies.”
Leavitt chose to respond because she said she "just called the president to announce Amazon's announcement."
Amazon isn't the first retailer to focus on how new tariffs change prices.
In recent days, fast fashion giants Shein and Temu, headquartered in China, have added a lot of surcharges. Temu now contains a line on its checkout total, showing a "Import Charge" that adds about 145% to each item.
Levitt's response may indicate an emerging rift between Trump and Bezos, who has worked with the Republican president since the 2024 election.

After often igniting Trump's anger over the past few years, Bezos expressed optimism about the Republican second term in December, saying he believes Trump has become more calm and confident.
In the same month, Amazon donated $1 million to Trump's inauguration fund.
Bezos further accused Trump seeking Trump forcing the Washington Post, which he owns, to limit its public opinion section, to publish only articles to defend "personal freedom and free market."
Leavitt was asked whether Bezos was “still a Trump supporter” after Amazon’s statement.
"Look, I won't talk to the President's relationship with Jeff Bezos, but I'll tell you that it's undoubtedly an Amazon hostile and political action," she said.
