Sean Diddy’s trial, one of America’s most successful rappers and music tycoons, began in New York on Monday.

Allegations against him include extortion, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution. If convicted, he can face life in prison.

The rapper also faces dozens of civil lawsuits that accused him of using his power to drugs, attacks, rapes, intimidation and silence.

Mr Combs pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges and rejected the attempt to "quick payday".

Who is Sean'Diddy comb?

Mr. Combs (also named Puffy, Puff Daddy, P Diddy, Love and Brother Love) appeared in the hip-hop scenes of the 1990s.

The success of his early music career included helping start the careers of Mary J Blige and Christopher Wallace – aka Biggie Smalls or the infamous Bigs

His music label Bad Boy Records became one of the most important tags in rap and expanded to Faith Evans, Ma $E, 112, Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez.

Mr. Combs also has a prolific business career outside of music, including an agreement with British beverage company Diageo to promote French vodka brand Cîroc.

In 2023, he released his fifth album, Love Album: Off The Grid, and received his first solo nomination at the Grammy Awards. He was also named a global idol at the MTV Awards.

What are the allegations and allegations against Didi?

In federal criminal cases, Mr. Coms is charged with a conspiracy of extortion, two counts of sex trafficking and two counts of trafficking to engage in prostitution.

Many of the worst allegations involve conspiracy charges of extortion.

It includes allegations of kidnapping, drug use and coercion of women for sexual activity, sometimes using guns or threats of violence.

During the raid on his Los Angeles mansion, police found they said the supplies were intended for a revelry called "freaks," including drugs and more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil.

Additionally, Mr Combs faces numerous lawsuits accusing him of rape and assault.

Texas attorney Tony Buzbee handled some of these cases, saying more than 100 men and women from across the United States have filed lawsuits against rap tycoons, or will do so.

In December 2023, a woman known as Jane Doe in court documents claimed that she was “raped” by Combs and others when she was 17 in 2003. She said she was awarded “a large amount of drugs and alcohol” before the attack.

Mr Combs' legal team dismissed a series of lawsuits because of "clear attempts to obtain publicity".

His current legal issues began when he was sued by his ex-girlfriend Casandra Ventura (also known as Cassie) in late 2023. She accused him of violent abuse and rape of her.

The lawsuit was settled the day after the lawsuit was filed, and Mr. Combs remained innocent.

Since then, dozens of people have filed lawsuits accusing Mr. Combs of sexual assault, allegations date back to 1991. He denied all requests.

His controversial history with Ms. Ventura in 2024, when leaked CCTV footage from CNN showed Mr. Combs kicking his ex-girlfriend in 2016 while lying on the hotel corridor floor.

He apologized for his actions, saying, "I took full responsibility for the actions in that video. I was disgusted by what I did at that time. I was disgusted now."

What does Didi comment on the allegations?

Mr Combs has been denied allegations against him in civil lawsuits, calling them "disgusting" and suggesting they were made of "people seeking quick paydays."

His attorney said in a statement to the BBC on federal criminal charges: “Mr. Coms and his legal team are confident in the facts and integrity of the judicial process.

“In court, facts will prevail: Mr. Coms never sexually assaults or trafficking anyone—a man or woman, an adult or a minor.”

Diddy's lawyers then filed a motion that dismissed part of the federal indictment, where he was charged with transporting for prostitution. His team argued that his goal was unfair due to his game.

At a hearing in New York a week before the trial, his lawyer told the court that the rapper led the “lifestyle” of “swimmers” was not a criminal.

They said he thought it was "suitable" to have multiple sex partners, including sex workers.

At the same hearing, prosecutors revealed that Mr. Coms refused a plea agreement.

Is Didi in prison?

Several U.S. judges criticized the dangerous conditions facing prisoners at the Metropolitan Detention Center.

Since his arrest on September 16, 2024, Mr. Combs has been at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York.

His lawyers advocated the release of his release, citing the "terrible" conditions in the prison.

Critics describe the prison as overcrowded, understaffed, and a culture of violence.

A federal judge in New York denied the bail request, saying Mr. COMB was a "serious flight risk."

Prosecutors claimed Mr Combs violated the prison rules by contacting potential witnesses.

They accused him of “relative efforts” and “corruption affects witness testimony.”

When will Didi be judged and how long will it last?

The first day of the trial will include the selection of a jury, which begins after 12 jurors and six alternate panels were selected.

Prosecutor Emily Johnson told the judge that it would take three weeks for the government to file a case.

Defense attorney Marc Agnifilo said the rappers’ team will take a week.

Mr. COMBS's trial will be held in front of U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian at the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Court Building in Lower Manhattan.

The trial is expected to be open to the public, but will not be streamed online.

U.S. federal courts generally do not allow cameras, telephones and electronic devices.

How long can Didi spend in prison?

If convicted on a charge of extortion, Mr Combs will face life in prison.

If he is convicted of sexual trafficking, he will face another statutory minimum sentence of 15 years.

For the purpose of prostitution, transportation can be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
