What will Cunha and Mbeumo bring to Manchester United?

A cloud over the club was cast in the Europa League final. After Bilbao defeated Totterham Hotspur, he gained a last chance of redemption from the struggle season.

Silverware not only escaped Ruben Amorim, but also qualified for the Champions League. Given the financial incentives offered, this is a setback to plans that do not need to be rebuilt. It was Manchester United's worst Premier League season ever. The club ended its first second half in 35 years. They are the lowest since being relegated from top flight in 1975. Regardless of how you look at them, statistics can make people grim.

Ineos' ownership is a series of its own goals, and the reshuffle has seen Erik Ten being ousted Amorim, Sir Dan Ashworth and Sir Dave Brailsford all bring in and keep moving forward.

Currently, Amorim's role looks safe, even though his tenure as head coach has begun. The 40-year-old believes in his fluid system, but is largely unsuitable for its requirements.

Early in the transfer window, the positive bud has returned. A deal against Matheus Cunha has been reached, and Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo declared Manchester as his preferred destination.

But what exactly will those two bring?

Last season, Cunha and Mbeumo were both one of the most productive players in the Premier League. The duo recorded 35 goals and 13 assists in the Premier League. In the context, Manchester United only won 44 collectives.

Target is the main problem for the Red Devils. In terms of creation and transformation. Manchester United ranked 13th in the Premier League with a bad record of setting and underperforming for XG. In terms of accidental conversions, only Bournemouth and relegation Southampton were underperformed. Under Amorim's management, Manchester United failed to score in 11 league games.

Rasmus Hojlund didn't develop as much as he hoped, and Joshua Zirkzee had a tough first season in British football. No Manchester United player has scored more than 10 goals in the Premier League.

Amorim was also surprised by his lack of athleticism, and the arrival of Cunha and Mbeumo will lift his team's physical condition.

Mbeumo in particular will increase speed and strength to the attack armory. In 2024/25, only two players sprinted more than the Cameroonian (870), while only three players were at higher speeds (22.76 mph).

Statistics about the time Cunha took to walk earlier this year, the largest of any Premier League player. However, the Brazilian's game is built on explosiveness, with him third in Wolves and second in percentages of sprints, sprints and second sprint times. After spending some time with RB Leipzig and Atletico Madrid, the work ethics has been 25 years old.

Crucially, he also looks very suitable for Amorim's system. He has operated in a similar strata of the Wolves, floating, and is one of the only two senior midfielders behind the striker. Mbeumo looks likely to join Amorim's 3-4-2-1, which is a slight shift from his role on Brentford's right.

Arrivals can also see Bruno Fernandes enter the deeper role we saw sporadically last season. Although the Manchester United captain's advantage is creating opportunities, moving to the two-way hub will help the club's progress issues.

Obviously, Manchester United solves their problems with the talent of the Premier League, and there is no doubt that Cunha and Mbeumo look picky. Maybe the question mark is whether the numbers from last season are sustainable.

Are Manchester United's Cunha and Mbeumo numbers sustainable?

Mbeumo (+6.79) and Cunha (+6.3) ranked first in 2024/25, and XG performed too high. From half the cup, Manchester United is looking to add two Premier League best finishers to their squad. But, on the other side, are these numbers exceptional?

Mbeumo has never scored 10 goals in the Premier League season before, returning 9, 9 and 4 in three seasons. His total score is 28.7 XG with a total score of 22 times, with a performance of less than 6.7.

Note that most of the underperformance were on 2021/22 (-5.3), which showed progress as he entered his twenties. However, is this improvement always meeting the 2024/25 standard.

Cunha has reached double digits in a row in the Premier League season and outperformed XG in two and a half seasons with Wolves. He scored 29 league goals from XG at 20.1. While the rapid growth last season may be sustainable, data suggests that Cunha will continue to score for most of its chances.

Assuming Manchester United reached an agreement for Mbeumo, there might be additional taxes on two players from the best campaign of their careers, but there are a lot worth taxes about their business.

Cunha and Mbeumo are two players who scored 15 non-racing goals each season last season, providing a fixed threat and having the best possible effect. They improved the squad’s body image and injected much-needed goals and creativity.

Whether it's enough to bring United from their lowest modern tides to the top four remains to be seen. Talent has arrived before. Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Angel Di Maria and others have all come with great reputations, and some have experienced in the Premier League. No one can meet expectations.

Manchester United have signed many outstanding players over the past decade. Few people have improved in Old Trafford. As we move into the new season, it will be a real challenge for Amorim.
