Wes Anderson Phoenician Project Press Conference

Leave it to Wes Anderson to bring a hint of whimsicality to Trump’s tariff war.

Asked about Trump's proposal to impose 100% tariffs on "French-Made Movies" for his new feature at a Cannes press conference, Phoenician ProjectAnderson beat up confused.

"I'm not that expert in economics, but 100% tariffs? I think that means he (Trump) will take all the money and then what do we get?" the director muses. "Can you lift the movie in customs? I don't think it was shipped that way. I want to know the details, so I'll postpone the formal answer."

Anderson and a series of stars tucked into the Cannes press room to answer questions about his latest features, the feature premiered at the competition in Cannes on Sunday night. Anderson and most Phonecian Solution Ensemble cast members, including Benicio del Toro, Mia Treeapleton, Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed, Jeffrey Wright, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend and Richard Ayoade. Anderson's regular collaborator Bill Murray also joined the audience, and when Anderson and other actors competed, he jumped in his own footsteps and led the crowd to welcome applause.

The Press has the feeling of an Anderson movie: light, whimsical, full of laughter. When asked about the film’s family theme, Anderson picked out his co-author Roman Coppola, sitting among the audience with his daughter, noting that it was her 14th birthday. Murray quickly got the two Coppolas up and led the crowd to sing "Happy Birthday."

Phoenician Project Star Del Toro plays Zsa-Zsa Korda, a dark 1950s industrialist who survived another assassination attempt and began to think about his legacy. His solution? Install his estranged daughter Liesl (Treeapleton), a novice nun, as the heir to his corrupt empire - she accepted this claim carefully under strict conditions.

The film takes the fictional modern, larger independent Phoenician theme, blends Anderson's signature visual style with narrative, and explores the moral ambiguity of inheritance, redemption, and power. thrThe commentary says the film marks the return of Anderson after his return French dispatch and Asteroid city. “Phoenician Project…There won’t be real haters rethinking their choices. "Criticist Lovia Gyarkye wrote, but this will attract people who have been feeling alienated to rejoin the rank."

Anderson said he initially hoped the film was "quite dark" but "eventually went somewhere else."

Treapleton said she was shocked when she was defeated in her first major starring role. "I asked my agent to call them back," she said. "She called me and said 'No, it's not a mistake.' Then I sat down (and) cried for a long time." The British actress, the daughter of Oscar winner Kate Winslet, said that working with Anderson had been a dream since she was a kid. “I went back to the journal and found it in 2013: ‘Look at it The Kingdom of Moonlight again. I love this movie. I really hope to work with Wes Anderson one day. ”

British comedian and actor Richard Ayoade was another Anderson Newbie who joked that he thought the "cleit error" he was played was recorded in the movie, but when he "knows he was going to make a mistake, I showed up...I'm obviously one of the great men." It won't be the last time I worked together. Anderson announced that he is joining Coppola's next film to create with Ayoade.

Anderson also said he was willing to work with CERA again and even shake the deal in front of the gathering reporters.

Cumberbatch says seeing Anderson work with Canadians Superbad Actors “just like God discovers water.

This is Anderson's fourth film premiered at the festival The Kingdom of Moonlight (2012), French dispatch (2021) and Asteroid city (2023).
