Kaja Sokola, the new plaintiff in Harvey Weinstein's New York trial, began her testimony Wednesday at the retrial of the former Hollywood producer in Manhattan.
The former protester is an aspiring actor who was the second accused when she met Weinstein. Kaja Sokola tells the court about her life, including her growth in Wroclaw, Poland, before meeting Weinstein.
Earlier Wednesday, Kaja Sokola's sister cardiologist Ewa Sokola testified that the two had a lunch meeting with Weinstein at a Manhattan hotel. Ewa Sokola recalls that at one point Kaja Sokola and Weinstein took the elevator together upstairs while she stayed at the table and waited for 30 minutes to an hour. Kaja Sokola ends up returning alone, but Kaja doesn't return to the table and leaves the hotel with Ewa Sokola.
Ewa Sokola noted that after her sister returned alone with Weinstein, her sister seemed to be in a state of “extreme tension”, even though the two continued to spend the day as if it was a “regular day.” She added that she doesn't remember if Kaja Sokola was holding anything, such as the script, nor did she notice any ripped clothes, including ripped stockings.
When the defense during the cross-examination asked if Kaja Sokola had said negative words to Weinstein before 2017, Ewa Sokola replied No. "She is proud to know him," she told the court.
Ewa Sokola also testified that her sister never told Weinstein about any alleged attacks, and she first learned about the allegations from a magazine article published in 2022.
Last September, after Kaja Sokola, who was then unknown, charged Weinstein with oral sex on her at one of her Manhattan hotels between April 29, 2006 and May 6, 2006, Weinstein was indicted on additional sexual offence charges.
"Today, Kaja Sokola stands on the stance to share her truths - not only a survivor, but also an accomplished psychotherapist and psychologist. About twenty or more years ago, Kaja was a teenager and Kaja was a vulnerable person. Kaja, who made sure she understood her control over the future, told her that he was capable of pursuing or destroying a career.
Kaja Sokola previously filed a civil lawsuit against Weinstein in 2019, in connection with the 2002 incident, claiming that when she was 16, Weinstein bullied her, allowing her to touch her and make her touch his cock. The allegation was first filed in 2018 when she was part of a class action lawsuit and was identified as Jane Doe. Sokora said in a statement that the clause was unfair despite the class action plaintiffs agreeing to file a lawsuit against Weinstein.
Weinstein is charged with two counts of committing “criminal sexual conduct” on first-degree and one third-degree rape is a “criminal sexual conduct” after the charges from Sokola, Haley and actor Jessica Mann.
