WARTSILA, MEGATUGS join forces to enhance underwater transportation services

Wartsila Underwater Services has announced a strategic alliance with Greece-based maritime service provider Megatugs to enhance underwater support solutions for the global transportation sector.

The collaboration will focus on improving operational efficiency and sustainability of ship operators, aiming to minimize downtime and reduce costs, and establish new benchmarks in underwater service standards.

The partnership will leverage the comprehensive expertise and resources of the two companies to provide comprehensive underwater maintenance and repair services.

Wartsila's proficiency in axis lines and propulsion systems will gain Megatugs' experience in underwater service and rescue operations, thus providing a more proactive approach to ship maintenance.

The partnership will include a wide range of services including inspection and maintenance of propulsion systems, rudders, hulls and scrubber systems, as well as full-scale salvage and emergency repairs throughout the year, available year-round.

"This partnership redefines underwater services, provides new industry benchmarks for shipowners and operators and ensures global support," said Paul Xiradakis, director of Megatugs.

“Together, we are providing smarter, faster, and more sustainable solutions to enable ships to grow and businesses to thrive.”

Key benefits of the partnership include increased operational efficiency through faster underwater maintenance and environmentally friendly cleaning and repair methods that comply with regulations.

Other advantages include an expanded global service coverage to respond quickly to key areas and the application of advanced technologies for accurate underwater diagnosis and repair.

“Customer service is at the heart of everything we do. By joining forces with Megatugs, we are enhancing our ability to respond quickly to emergencies and support our customers within the operational scope,” said William Winters, managing director of Wartsila Underwater Services.

Last month, Wartsila announced plans to upgrade the RT-FLEX main engine to two bulk carriers owned by Turkish shipping company Ulusoy Sealines.

This transformation program is designed to improve the operating life, performance and fuel efficiency of the vessel and ultimately reduce emissions.
