The international drama "Chrysalis" packed the main photography work in Vietnam and released the first view of the image from the production.
The film, produced by Sir Daniel K. Winn in collaboration with Vietnamese producer Trương Ngọcánh, has recently completed extensive shooting at several locations in Vietnam, including the construction of a specially built large village dedicated to the story’s 1970s environment.
"Chrysalis" follows the position of a resourceful little boy in a chaotic world in the backdrop of Vietnam's war-torn Vietnam in the 1970s, while haunted by the memories of his broken family, under the guidance of his grandmother's wisdom. The story stems from Winn's own childhood experiences between the ages of six and nine, an adaptation of his upcoming memoir.
Award-winning actor Kieu Chinh, 88, has been in the project with Nguyen Vu Uy Nhan and Winn himself after more than a decade of acting. Chinh, known for her role in "Happy Luck Club" and Emmy Award-winning documentary work, played a key role as a grandmother.
The work is directed by Jordan Schulz and has an international production team along with Winn and executive producer Randall J. Slavin.
Truong Ngoc Anh is the Vietnamese actor and producer behind the film, including "White Silk Dresses", "Huong Ga" and "Kidnap", leading the Vietnam production version.
"It's an interesting and challenging project, but I believe that with the efforts, enthusiasm and talent of the entire team, we will bring this vision to the screen in a powerful way. We are eagerly looking forward to the release of this film in the United States, Vietnam and other countries in the world."
For Winn and Slavin, partners at Beverly Hills-based Winn Slavin Fine Art, “Chrysalis” represents their continued expansion into cinema following their award-winning shorts “Creation” and “Ectropy,” both part of a trial exploring themes of chaos, order, and the human condition based on Winn's artistic philosophy of existing surrealism.
“Vietnam is a country with great cultural richness and beauty,” said Winn. “It is an honor to work with TrươngNgọcánh and his team to bring 'Chrysalis' into life.
