New production company Veloche Productions will debut in the Cannes film market.
The joint venture will be launched through horror films and a dedicated production fund to support filmmakers from the Indian subcontinent who do not have access to traditional industry and studio funding.
The fund will accept submissions from July to September 9, 2025 and will announce the winners in October. This initiative represents the first major activity for the company, which was founded by UAE-based entrepreneur and 2023 Mrs. Earth, Debanjali Kamstra, alongside Indian film industry veteran Sandhya Ramachandran, who has had stints as creative director at Rose Movies, film agent to Bollywood star Katrina Kaif and managing Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's Being Human brands portfolio and as CEO of his talent agency UBT.
Veloche Productions' inauguration project will be an English-language horror film inspired by Indian folklore and mysticism. The project will be run by Salil Jason Fernandes and creative producer Aliya Curmally and is scheduled to begin in early 2026.
Canstella himself will debut in "30 Days of Autumn" with director Sudipto Roy's classic short story "The Postmaster" of Rabindranath Tagore's adaptation. The expanded short film will premiere in the Cannes market in partnership with the Federation of Indian Industry (CII).
“The film-making talent in the Indian subcontinent is incredible, as evidenced by a series of internationally engaging films last year, gaining recognition through international festivals and award selections, and through this award, it has enabled audiences and appreciation from all over the world,” Kamstral said. “Unfortunately, many talent remains undeveloped as these filmmakers lack a large degree of connection with funding from studios and production companies.”
She added: "My career journey has provided me with so many opportunities and opportunities that my goal with Veloche Productions is to help others bring their talents and stories into life, in this case, on screen. Here, we are at the Cannes Film Festival, where my first film as an actor will be screened. What's more appropriate, what's better than this than the class, and announce production companies and production funds?"
“In my years of working in Indian cinemas, I’ve seen a lot of scripts and met so many aspiring and unusually talented directors, sadly, they didn’t have the opportunity to bring their vision to life because they just don’t have the industry connection or the opportunity to get studio funding,” Ramachandran said. “Build in touch with Debanjali, who is full of talent, motivation and a commitment to sharing his own success, we decided to combine their respective resources and expertise to launch Veloche Productions. We’ve greened our first project and we’re excited to see the production fund entries for the next project when they open in July.”
