Authorities confirmed that a 15-year-old Utah girl disappeared in April and was in safe condition and in good health in Colorado Springs.
According to Sergeant Shaun Becker, Alisa Petrov walked into the Colorado Springs Police Department earlier that night and identified himself. Officials said she didn't seem to be hurt and was in good health.
Alisa left Provo's train platform six weeks ago, captured on surveillance video on April 21. Until this week's development, it marked her last known sighting. Investigators have not disclosed how she went to Colorado or whether she was forced or detained during her journey.
Detectives are now coordinating efforts to reunite with their family. Her father, Nikolai Petrov, had previously said the family's priority was her return safely, not pursue or blame.
"Obviously, it's better for her to walk in the door and say 'Hey, I'm back, that's going to be the best result."
The environment in which Alisa disappeared is largely unclear. Officials have not released information about the information she has lived in the past six weeks or the specific reasons she decided to submit.
Becker said more detailed statements are expected as authorities work in the official press release.
In a Facebook post, Nikolai Petrov shared the good news. "We are all very happy to find Alisa and look forward to meeting her!" he wrote on Facebook. Thank you for your help and support from all friends. ”
The day she disappeared, Alisa got off at Canyon Grove Academy, about 32 miles south of Salt Lake City. However, she never took a class. Instead, she bought supplies at a nearby track gas station and convinced a man to drive to the local train station.
From there, she headed to Provo, about 14 miles away, where she reportedly asked multiple people to provide bus tickets to Las Vegas. Her goal is to meet Matthew Nicholas Menard, 35, whom she has been in contact with.
The teenager's mother, Olga, had previously told The Daily Mail that Alisa saved about $1,000 from birthday gifts and allowances, which she kept after she turned 15 on April 16, just five days before her disappearance.
