Five hours before Rauw Alejandro took the stage for his two-hour concert, his agent Mike G was skillfully manipulated on residential streets in Los Angeles, while Beverly Hills turned into Culver and then Inglewood. Mike is a UTA partner and music agent who unwaveredly bypassed his home country’s infamous 6-pm traffic and made sure he could arrive before clients meet and the Green Age.
Alejandro is in support of his fifth record, Cosa Nuestra, and the third highest Spanish album in the United States in 2024 - the first Latin artist to sell new and tech-savvy arenas for three consecutive nights.
“We’re talking about the stadium in 2026,” Mike told type Alejandro's script: He will end several nights this year at Major Arenas, release another album and support it with a bigger tour. At the moment when this trek is 21, we will extend to Latin America in October and sell out in June within just 72 hours after it is sold out.
"With an artist like Lauf, knowing what he wants, where he is going, it's more about rhythm than skipping any steps," he said.
It sounds easy to say what someone from Mike's Résumé is, but his path to becoming a powerful agent is not typical. His journey began with broadcasting and sales, and then transitioned to artist management. He began managing Chris Brown in 2012 and continued to represent Teyana Taylor and Akon, who still passed UTA representatives. He has no real-life reference frame, and he jokes about the Hollywood sarcastic “entourage” to his inspiration to start a music career: “I just thought, ‘I can do that – I can manage someone,” he said. “And I’m going to say, the show is very accurate for the experience.”
In 2024, he signed Cardi B, Quavo and Alejandro, including Lil Wayne, Young Thug, Latto and Kid Laroi among others. With a list of clients as heavy as this one, he started his time early and lived by “staying productive, not busy.”
This approach has certainly proved successful, as Mike helped prepare some of the most anticipated trips. He noted that at the top of the list: Cardi B’s first American Arena Tour, a 35-city run, tentatively scheduled to take place later this year – “It all depends on the timing of her next album,” he noted. After spending his career night at Madison Square Garden in June, Lil Wayne will also be on the road this spring and summer. Meanwhile, Young Thug is planning a brief festival tour, a symbolic reward after falling behind two years - a arena tour later this summer.
“The biggest thing I’ve represented is building the network behind the artists,” he said. “A big part of my responsibility at the concert is to make sure that we invite the people we attend the show and see and feel the full experience. This is especially true for Lauf, because his live performance is a high sales volume of his artistic nature.
Lauf’s goal is to enter the main stage. He said. He said.
The Latin Grammy Award-winning Reggae star reached an agreement with UTA in the second half of 2024, and soon after a team consisting of three new management teams (Business Manager José Juan Torres, his long-time personal manager Matías Solaris and Jorge "Pepo" Pepo" Ferradas, the founder and CEO of FPM Explorer. At the helm of UTA, Alejandro is building connections in the sports world and approaching a deal with Mike's best friend Michael Rubin and his digital sports brand fanatics, which is built on sports betting and gaming, live business, fan events and more.
Alejandro also wants to make movies and recently made connections with independent entertainment company A24 Movies. His appreciation for visual storytelling is reflected in the dramatic and Broadway-style approach, his “Cosa Nuestra” tour, which is a trip from city to city with 22 trucks, making the magic on stage look effortless. "We're going to invite film producers, directors and producers to come to see the show to get him in the right direction, which is a priority," Mike said.
It is a daily routine to pursue these goals for clients, but in his own time, Mike has also built a strong business in the investment world. He is a limited-edition partner of Andreessen Horowitz and is a new beverage brand of Lance Collins, Rehabilitation 180 and Half Day and TGL Golf, an innovative golf league co-founded by Tiger Woods.
He is also a minority owner of the Texas rancher's Kimchi Alliance and an investor in Johnson Energy Storage, a lithium-ion battery energy company backed by Myles Garrett and Magic Johnson. In addition, Mike has invested in Slate, the official sponsor of UFC, along with Maxx Crosby and Dana White.
"It takes a village to do what we do. But when I finally reached the end of the day, I was glad if I moved the ball to the field," he said. "Even a little bit."
Mike ended his night at Alejandro’s concert, launching right outside the backstage door, waiting for the artist’s buzzing team until sweat, the adrenaline-filled star finally popped up on the scene, igniting cheers and high fives. If it wasn't Monday, the crew might have brought the party to the Bird Street Club, a hidden room beyond the sunset boulevard.
But instead, the agent slid into his Rolls-Royce, the city lights reflected off the hood, and smiled and shrugged back home: “This is over my bedtime.”
