Updated MLB prospects for the top 50 in 2025: Anthony, Chandler, more

Now, we are nearly two months into the 2025 MLB season, many of the best young players entering the season have graduated from the top 100 qualifications, and new prospects are already starting to shine.

And, as this is also a time when the conversations of the year shift to trade speculation, it is a great opportunity to update my minor league prospects rankings – some of those players appear in the trade over the next few months.

Although we recently updated the top 10 prospect rankings in all 30 MLB farm systems (and will continue to do so every month throughout the season), this is my first update to the offseason top 100 prospect list. You can read this introduction for information about the Future Value (FV) layer and deeper reconnaissance reports. Players in the major leagues are eligible for this update (the MLB rookie eligibility rules apply here - 130 hits, 50 innings pitches or 45 days of active rosters), but players are not expected to include eligibility around next week.

To be clear, these are the players who have graduated (or are about to this season), taking them out of the mix for a spot: Roki Sasaki (No. 1 on preseason top 100), Dylan Crews (No. 6), Jackson Jobe (No. 7), Jasson Dominguez (No. 24), Kristian Campbell (No. 26), Jacob Wilson (No. 31), Drake Baldwin (No. 44), Cam Smith (No. 73). Matt Shaw, Nick Kurtz and Agustin Ramirez are included below, but they should graduate within the next month.

Now enter the top 50 MLB prospects, and those who just missed it.

60 FV layer

1. Roman Anthony, Boston Red Sox

After Sasaki graduated from first place, Anthony served as the default top prospect. The only real area of improvement left in Anthony's offensive game is converting his 30+ levels of raw power into home runs for better or more consistent lift/pull his swing.

2. BubbaChandler, RHP, Pirates of Pittsburgh

Chandler was a raw high school pitching prospect at the 2021 draft as he was quarterback, shortstop and riding basketball before the Buccaneers took him away in the third round. He is now a budget-minded major league potential first-tier starter. His 90s heater heaters were probably the best in the minor league, and he also had two above average circuit breakers, one plus turnover and above average commands.

3. Leodalisde Vries, SS, Santiago Padres

De Vries has a three-in-one senior teen shortstop advantage. He has the foundation of three threes and pull/lift skills, and is also a revle, at least as good as the other two in defense in shortstops. De Vries' tools can be above average in all respects and have the potential of 25-30 home runs.

4. Sebastian Walcott, SS, Texas Rangers

Walcott went from a long-term shortstop to a current average long-term defender, just like a large sports infielder (like the current Ranger Shortstop Corey Seager). Walcott has the most strength among three teen shortstops, hitting 40 home runs one day, despite his soft skills (base, pull/lift) being a grade behind the de Vries.

5.

You heard of him here on the first summer of last summer when I was still playing in the Dominican summer league, 45th in my top 100 in August. I can't help but see some movements and postures of Ozzie Albies when watching, but the heights of the creation are five or six inches, so there is more room for upwards over his body. Witness: Made's exit from Velos (he was only 18 this month) is in one or two of the best ticks of Albies' career. It's too early to know where he will end up at (shortstop or second base), or what his final offensive character will be, but he looks like a potential star.

6. Marcelo Mayer, SS, Boston Red Sox
7. Jordan Lawlar, SS, Arizona Rattlesnake

Mayer and Lawlar are very close to each other (or back-to-back) all the way back to the 2021 draft, and here again. Lawlar returned to the majors after a strong start, while Mayer entered the triple, which seemed to be the choice to debut later this season. Lawlar is a better runner and defender, while Mayer is a left-handed batsman and a better pure batsman.

8. MaxClark, Of, Detroit Tiger
9. Walker Jenkins, Minnesota Twins

I also have Clark and Jenkins basically back-to-back as they both made the top five in the 2023 draft. The injury restricted Jenkins' game on the court, but he did a great job of playing: a batsman with Plus Power who can help in all three outfield games. Clark is a plus runner, an absolute midfielder with solid average raw power, but his popular tools and methods are plus.

10. ColtEmerson, SS, Seattle Sailor
11. Kevin McGonigle, SS, Detroit Tiger

Emerson and McGonigle were selected as high school batsmen for the 2023 draft in the second half of the first round. Both are possible shortstops, and they may play more second base in the majors, especially when their team has extra guards there. They are batsmen with good methods and above average raw power forecasts, and some feel like playing in the game.

12. Chase Burns, RHP, Cincinnati Reds

Burns' loud delivery and 90s fastballs may not look like a commanding expert, but his terrible in the strike zone. His 86-90 mph slider is probably the best breaking ball in the minor league, while his fastball is 96-100 mph.

13. Samuel Basallo, C, Baltimore Orioles
14. Dalton Rushing, C, Los Angeles Dodgers

Both Basallo and Rushing have solid (but not great) defenders with a batting profile. Just made a call in a hurry, and Basallo is already on Triple-A, and is still only 20 years old. Rushing's approach is much better - Basallo still chases too much - but Basallo has a higher primitive power, so he gains an advantage due to his rise and age.

15. Travis Bazzana, 2B, Guardian of Cleveland
16. Aidan Miller, SS, Philadelphia Phillies

Miller is a shortstop who may slide to the third base of the major leagues, while Bazzana should stick with the second base. Bazzana is a better runner and a base threat, and Miller has greater primitive power. I will master Bazzana's soft skills, but they have similar views at the major league level. (Bazzana has been sitting for at least eight to 10 weeks due to the tilted strain.)

17.

I couldn't get the comparison of Yordan Alvarez, at least when evaluating De Paula, I heard it from my head at least a year ago. He won't offer much speed or defensive value, but he has 30 pieces of burgers up and a great way to go.

18. Jac Caglianone from Kansas City Royal 1B
19. Konnor Griffin, SS, Pittsburgh Pirates
20. Jett Williams, SS, Metropolitan New York
twenty one.
22. Bryce Rainer, SS, Detroit Tiger
twenty three. AndrewPainter, RHP, Philadelphia
twenty four. Nick Kurtz, 1B, Track and Field
25. EthanSalas, C, San Diego Padres
26. Chase Dollander, RHP, Colorado Rockies
27. Carson Williams, SS, Tampa Bay Light
28. NoahSchultz, LHP, Chicago White Sox
29. Arjun Nimmala, SS, Toronto Blue Jays
30. Jacob Misowerowski, RHP, Milwaukee
31. ColeYoung, SS, Seattle Mariners
32. JJWetherholt, SS, St. Louis Cardinals
33. KyleTeel, C, Chicago White Sox
34. GeorgeLombard Jr., SS, New York Yankees
35. ThomasWhite, LHP, Miami Marlin

Caglianone continues to make progress, but there are some other big arrow prospects in the 2024 draft, with Griffin, Rainer and Kurtz all achieving good results. Griffin's swing problem has been greatly calmed down and his upside is still high. Rainer hits more power and shows more power than I expected, and Kurtz's shoulder issues seem to be overstated in draft time. I've always kept a high profile with Williams, who is like a painter, back to health and performance. Misiorowski throws strike in Triple A... Could this be true? Nimmala, Hope and Lombard are some arrow hitters who have obvious possibilities when they appear on the preseason roster.

Tong, Brandon Sproat and Nolan McLean are the top three arms and I modified them again from Team Deb 10 earlier this month because Tong looks like my best group now. McLean's orders are the biggest if his orders can take a step forward. Keaschall, Ballesteros and Ramirez hit more than I expected, Horton's Velo/Stuff is back completely, and he scored a major league shot in Chicago.

There are several famous players who have just been squeezed out of the roster (between Jarlin Susana, Hagen Smith, Cooper Pratt and Alex Freeland) or are rising rapidly but not fully up (including this time (including Andrew Salas, Luke Salas, Slade Caldwell, Caleb Bonemer, Caleb Bonemer, Ryan Sloan, Payton Tolle and Gage Camp). I also want to follow Blue Jays LHP Johnny King and Cardinals C Rainiel Rodriguez (on the team list) where I can click on the summer selection.
