U.S. lawyers dismiss the case with Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, accusing Rep. Ramonica McPver

US attorneys for Alina Habba, New Jersey, announced that federal trespassing charges against Newark Mayor Ras Baraka have been dismissed.

Baraka is Arrested On May 9, outside the immigration and customs enforcement facilities in Newark, during a visit with members of the New Jersey Congressional Mission.

"After extensive consideration, we agree to dismiss Mayor Baraka's misdemeanor charge of trespassing in order to move forward," Habba said in a statement to social media on Monday.

Baraka, who is currently running for governor Appear in court last week. At the time, prosecutors said they would be on the case for trial.

"I am glad that the US Attorney has agreed that this case should be dismissed. I have had strong relationships with prior US Attorneys, and I plan to speak with the current US Attorney about issues on which we can cooperate. Habba also announced that her office accused U.S. Rep. Lamonica McIver of "attacking, obstructing and interfering with law enforcement" during a visit to Delaney Hall.

"Earlier this month, I joined colleagues to check the treatment of ice detainees in Delaney Hall in my area. We are fulfiling legal oversight responsibilities because members of Congress have done so many times before, and our visits should have been peaceful and short-lived," McPherson said in a statement to the allegations. "Instead, when the Icefield Agents chose to arrest Mayor Baraka, the hockey agents created unnecessary, unsafe confrontations. The allegations against me are purely political, they misunderstand my actions and distort my actions and intend to commit crimes and block legislation oversight.
