Avon and Somerset police said two adults and a teenager died after a bicycle collision in the M5 in South Gloucestershire on Friday night. Another child is in critical condition after suffering serious injuries in the crash, which involves BMW cars.
A white BMW car left the northbound lane between Falfield and Michaelwood Services last night (Friday, May 30). As a result, the M5 remained closed in both directions between 14 and 13 (Stroud).
“We regret to report two adults in their 40s, a teenage child traveling in a car, died from injuries.
"The second child was seriously injured and they were taken to the hospital where they remained in critical condition."
"Our idea is first and foremost in the hospital and in the children of loved ones and in the family who receive the most horrible news overnight," said Mark Vicary, an inspector for the road police department of Avon and Somerset.
“A special training officer will support them during this difficult time.”
He added: “Emergency services have been around all night and proved to be a very complex scenario. They work hard and professionally to save lives in the most tragic situations.
“It is currently necessary to close the roads in sunlight for further collision investigation work. Vehicle recovery work still needs to be completed, and national highways need to evaluate the driving lanes and carry out necessary repairs before reopening the highway.
“As a result, the M5 stayed off this morning and we estimated it would need to keep it closed in both directions for the next few hours, but we are doing everything we can to reopen it as soon as possible.

"We appreciate the delays and disruptions caused by this closure, especially at the end of the break. But given the severity of this distressing incident, we hope the public will understand why this is necessary and ask them to consider alternative travel plans."
