Tuscany among 10 cheapest summer vacation destinations in 2025 | Travel

January is the best month to book your summer holiday - and this year there's a surprising budget option: Tuscany. According to Which?, the central region of Italy is one of the cheapest tourist destinations in 2025.

Researchers analyzed nearly 6,000 travel packages from the UK's three largest tour operators, Jet2holidays, Tui and easyJet Holidays. Often associated with luxury villa holidays amidst rolling hills and vineyards, and expensive hotels in Florence, Tuscany ranks among the top ten cheapest travel destinations, behind Spain's Costa Brava and Greece's Corso. More well-known economical areas such as Fushima.

Tuscany is the eighth cheapest destination, with the average cost of a week's holiday in Tuscany in early August being £1,034 per person including flights (based on two people sharing a double or twin room) .

Which? Says prices are lower than expected as there are still plenty of packages available in the area, offering cheap flights on room-only, self-catering and bed and breakfast accommodation, whether in Tuscan coastal towns or around Florence.

Naomi Leach, "Which?" "A holiday while the kids are out of school can be very expensive, but our latest price analysis shows there are still plenty of destinations where you can book an August holiday at a great price," said Travel's deputy editor.

“We found some real surprises in the most popular budget destinations such as Spain and Türkiye.”

Tuscany is one of two Italian regions to feature in the top ten. Venetian Riviera - a purpose-built beach resort on the edge of the Venetian lagoon - came in fourth, with average spending per person of £965.

The three cheapest destinations for a standard package holiday are Turkey's Dalaman region (£859 per person), Morocco's Agadir (£889 per person) and Bulgaria's Burgas region (£904 per person). Which? It said prices were likely to be lower in Turkey due to the recent heat wave - the average daily temperature in Dalaman in August was 33 degrees Celsius.

For all-inclusive holidays, Spain has 5 of the 10 cheapest locations: Costa Blanca, Fuerteventura, Tenerife, Mallorca and Gran Canaria. In August, the Canary Islands are generally cooler than mainland Europe, with mild temperatures brought by Atlantic breezes.

The Greek islands of Zante (also known as Zakynthos) and Cyprus also feature in the top 10 cheapest destinations for all-inclusive packages. The Portuguese island of Madeira, where Keir Starmer spent the New Year with his family, also ranked among the tenth cheapest.

Barrhead Travel, one of the UK's largest retail travel agencies, says January remains one of the best times to book a summer holiday. “Most carriers are offering significant savings and added value,” said Jacqueline Dobson, the company’s president. “With demand for travel at an all-time high, booking early also means you’re more likely to get your preferred accommodation and be able to pay a deposit and spread the cost of your trip.”
