Oklahoma City - Nijaree Canada is determined not to surrender to the Texas Tech lead after giving up his first game loss to Texas State.
In the third-placed final, Red Raiders Ace had an idea when facing Texas batsman Kayden Henry.
"Just go to her," Candy said. "Like I said, (Wednesday) night on me. ...I'm just fighting for my team."
That's what Canada does. She defeated Henry in three games, giving the Red Raiders a 4-3 victory, bringing the Women’s College World Series title into a decisive third game on Friday.
"Nija is big," said Texas tech coach Gerry Glasco. "She walked there and stretched her tail down."
Canada walked up to the Red Raiders for the fifth straight game in Oklahoma City.
She paraded the first six innings when Texas Tech entered the seventh inning with a 4-1 lead.
However, a mistake and a hit from the pitch kept both runners out. Leighann Goode of Texas then doubled the left center to score. Katie Cimusz's sacrifice flies pruned Texas Tech and raised Goode to third.
But with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and Texas Tech alums presenting, Canada shows why the Red Raiders brought her million-dollar name, image and similarities in the offseason to transfer from Stanford to Texas Tech.
Canada's WCWS won the game-ending strikeout, which gave the Red Raiders hopes of their first softball national championship.
"Obviously (Wednesday) night isn't my best game. I don't think this game is my best game either," she said. "I just put it on the field."
Despite not having the best performance, Canada also closed the Longhorns on Wednesday to lead the sixth inning 1-0. However, back-to-back singles and stolen bases put the tied and forward position in the scoring position in the two knockout rounds.
Canada tried to deliberately stroll the Reese Atwood loading base and set up troops at any base. But, as Canady tried to throw the No. 4 ball away, Atwood brought the court to the left, pushing Texas with a 2-1 victory.
On Thursday, Glasco visited the mound and called on the infielders to squeeze in Canada as the Longhorns threatened to win another amazing victory.
"I just said, 'We're going to win this game,'" He said. "We're good... We're going to finish this."
After the strikeout at the end of the game, the Canadians ripped off their mask and repeatedly kicked their fists as Mahomes did the same on the Devon Park box on the plate.
"Let Nija push her way in less than 26-27 hours in less than 26-27 hours," Glasco said.
ESPN Research says no pitcher has invested in the WCWS for national championship teams since Alabama's Jackie Traina in 2012.
Glasco vowed that Canadians would start again on Friday, with a condition: "If she is breathing."
