WASHINGTON - According to a letter from NBC News, an incoming director of the Justice Department’s “Weaponization Task Force” revealed that he conducted an investigation in the Columbia Discipline Lawyer’s Office, accusing the official of investigating law firm complaints to “weaponize” its role.
The outgoing U.S. attorney for Columbia Ed Martin complained about the actions of disciplinary attorney Hamilton P., who served as chief prosecutor for attorney discipline for DC BAR members in a temporary email to his staff.
"Please know that I will continue to fight against the systematic abuse of our prosecutors (public defense services), judges, and especially DC discipline attorneys," Martin wrote in an email to staff. "This is how they treat our anger and I will continue to fight against the weaponization of our legal permission. See attachment - I am taking over Mr. Fox. His actions are personal insults and professionally unacceptable."
Several external organizations and members of Congress investigated Martin's behavior when they were at U.S. lawyers, and Fox had previously refused to take further measures on at least one request. Most requests sent to the Fox office were turned away, but Martin's letter rose, at least one investigation was moving forward, which had been disciplined: 2025-D047.
The investigation is in the non-public stage and only if the office decides to file a disciplinary action against Martin, it will only become a matter of public records.
Fox declined to comment. Reuters first reported the investigation.
Martin's farewell email was accompanied by a letter to Judge Anna Blackburn Riggsby of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, complaining that Fox sent his family and office “a postage required for signatures”, “prompt my family’s questions and asked questions from my family and colleagues who had to sign.” Martin called it “trouble” and said “pushing confidentiality envelopes.” He also wrote that Fox sent the letter to the civilian air intake box of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
"To be clear, Mr. Fox is being weapons, to put his role, responsibility and office weapons against me and this office. "I ask you not only immediately suspend Mr. Fox's investigation of his actions, but also to dismiss the case against me because of his prejudiced behavior. ”
The Justice Department’s Weaponization Task Force, which is under the charge of Martin, is composed of Attorney General Pam Bondi to respond to President Donald Trump’s executive orders and has been accused of studying several issues, including former special counsel Jack Smith and the Justice Department’s handling of January 6, 2021, at the U.S. conference.
Martin's letter comes the same day that former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro took over as interim U.S. attorney, because the Senate did not permanently assured Martin of office.
Martin said in a press conference Tuesday that he planned to "shame" what he said "do something really bad to the American people" even if the Justice Department did not file criminal charges.
Martin said in an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson that he said he believes prosecuting people with criminal misconduct is not enough, continuing to suggest that he will use the Justice Department’s bully podium to convey information about the pro bono party.
“I say the information is one of the reasons why you can’t, we can’t win the third chapter fight fast enough,” Martin refers to the court. “You can’t win the progress we need quickly enough.”
"So you're trying to resolve the truth in court, fighting to do these things, prosecute and everyone, but they take longer, not just propaganda, right, bringing the information out," Martin said. "I think it's a different moment in history."
