President Donald Trump slammed Vladimir Putin in his Truth-Social Post on Tuesday, writing that the Russian president was “catching fire” while Moscow continued his war with Ukraine. Trump has struggled to win a good promise on his campaign promise to hold a ceasefire between the two countries, and this weekend saw Russia's deadliest attack on Ukraine in months.
Russian-controlled media RT RT is pleased with Trump's warning to Putin.
RT posted on X: "President Trump warned Moscow, claiming that Russia avoided 'really bad' consequences. - There is little room for misunderstanding for Trump's message until tomorrow morning."
The post includes screenshots of Trump's truth-telling society after mocking Putin. "What Vladimir Putin didn't realize is that if it wasn't for me, there were a lot of real bad things going on in Russia, and I mean it was really bad. He was playing with fire!" the president wrote, which meant he had been protecting Russia.
Just last week, Trump said he had an "excellent" two-hour conversation with Putin and released the truth that Ukraine and Russia began a ceasefire "immediately" socializing, and called for "going smoothly." When Trump showed Putin the war, it was a huge amount of grace, the call would be blamed heavily on former President Joe Biden and even Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky. When asked about the Russian strike, Trump transferred the blame to Zelensky.
Russia and Ukraine held a major prisoner exchange over the weekend, but that did not stop Russia from launching an attack, killing at least 12 Ukraine. The aggression obviously angered Trump, who wrote about the Truth Society on Monday, saying Putin was “absolutely crazy.”
"I kept saying he wanted all Ukraine, not just a part of it, maybe that's right, but if he did that, it would lead to the downfall of Russia!" Trump added.
In 2022, Trump called Putin's invasion of Ukraine "genius" and "smart".
The Kremlin said Trump's stern comments about Putin were "related to the emotional overload of everyone involved".
Putin apparently promised to write a "peace memorandum", but he has not sent the documents to Trump, causing Trump to consider new sanctions. A group of Republicans in Congress also called for sanctions against Russia. The Kremlin said Tuesday that Putin and Trump agreed to swap prisoners between the United States and Russia.
Trump has made the war between Russia and Ukraine a major issue for his administration. He repeatedly said during the 2024 presidential campaign that he would end the war between Russia and Ukraine on his first day of office. He later said that this was "joking".
