Our country is standing at a crossroads. Thanks to the leadership of President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Norm, our borders are safe. We can take advantage of this success and provide law enforcement with the resources needed to ensure their safety by passing a big and beautiful bill, or we can leave the sacrifices of our local men and women in vain.
Considering the massive scale and prior demolition of our southern border, Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Coast Guard, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have managed to achieve it. They have reduced their encounters as illegal foreigners by 95% every day, seized billions of dollars worth of cocaine and more than 3,000 pounds of illegal fentanyl, and expelled hundreds of gang members and terrorists.
On the first day of Trump’s second term, he deployed the U.S. military to help secure our borders and protect our homelands. This includes Kansas' own First Infantry Division or the "Big Red" Division stationed at Fort Riley, which has been deployed to Fort Wachuca in Fort Serravista, Arizona.

Recently, I went to the Southern Border with law enforcement officers from Kansas - personally thanking these soldiers and all CBP officials for their service.
Biden's Border Legacy: An Economic Burden that Will Be Lasting for Years
What I saw was encouraging - the morale was high and their steps were clear. However, the resources are very thin and their work is far from over.
The camera used by CBP to monitor a quarter of the bezels does not work. Although the government has built nearly 80 miles of border walls, the CBP relies on these cameras to cover areas that lack walls. We need those cameras and full walls to ensure that no future president can throw our borders at the world again.
The CBP also patrols nearly 2,000 miles along the southern border - most of which are on hostile and difficult terrain. However, its fleet simply cannot complete the task.
The cartel is now trying to circumvent our closed land by smuggling drugs on high seas. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard has been accused of protecting our maritime borders since World War II.
I represent a border area flooded by illegal immigration. What I see now may surprise you
Its cutting fleet is aging, lack of manpower and funding has caused six stations to close, and under Biden it has missed its recruitment target for four consecutive years. Secretary Norm has stopped bleeding and new recruits are flooding, but only Congress can serve the services needed to shut down the cartel once and for all.
Under Biden, more than 1.7 million illegal immigrants evade the Border Patrol. These are the worst: dangerous gang members, terrorists and violent criminals. The ICE has indeed been so successful in arresting these criminals that they have exhausted space to accommodate them when they are preparing to sever. And without sufficient ICE officials, we will never be able to perform President Trump’s mission to expel 1 million illegal foreigners a year.
Our brave men and women need more funds in law enforcement and military, they need more materials, and more personnel. Now that the house has passed a big and beautiful bill, we must step up our efforts to hand it over to President Trump’s table.
Passing this bill is the only way we can ensure that borders remain safe. It will provide more than $46 billion in funding to complete the construction of the border wall and repair those damaged cameras. It also allocated $1 billion to CBP to replace its insufficient fleet.

The Coast Guard will receive $21 billion to help it acquire new knives, fuselage and 15,000 new coasts. Every dollar spent will help them break down the smuggling network and kill fentanyl (the deadly drugs that kill hundreds of thousands of Americans).
The bill will also provide ICE with the funds needed to rent and train 10,000 new agents - much needed reinforcements. ICE officials face some of our country's worst offenders every day, facing 412% of the attacks. Just the week before, an ice officer was injured while arresting criminals. Ice needed backup, and I needed it yesterday.
The team that won the Super Bowl knows that this work hasn't stopped during the offseason. New players must be selected, trained and prepared for another championship game.

We have bought ourselves a tough probation, but the invasion may recover if we cannot capitalize on our success.
There men and women are fighting good battles on the ground. They have our support every day. Now, we need to return favor. The Senate can at least provide them with the tools they need to win the battle. Through a large, beautiful banknote.
