President Donald Trump confirmed that Hamas will be released by Hamas after being imprisoned for nearly two years.
"I am pleased to announce that Edan Alexander, a U.S. citizen who has been hostage since October 2023, is returning home to his family," Trump wrote in a post on Sunday's social media platform "True Social".
"I thank everyone who has participated in making this commemorative news happen. It is a step forward in sincerity to the United States, and the efforts of the mediators - Qatar and Egypt to end this very cruel war and return all the living hostages to their loved ones," he continued. ”
"Hopefully this is the last step needed to end this brutal conflict. I'm very concerned about the celebrations that day!"
Hamas claims it will release American hostage Edan Alexander
Alexander is a dual citizen of Israel, the United States Captives in Gaza Since Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7.

The news comes after the terrorist group announced on Sunday that it had "contacted with the U.S. government in recent days."
"The movement showed high enthusiasm for Israeli soldier (Edan) Alexander, who was dual U.S. citizenship, to be released as part of the steps towards a ceasefire, the opening of transit crossings and the entry of aid and relief for people in the Gaza Strip."
Vice President JD Vance also commented on the news, writing: “Pray that Hamas will follow and Edan will go home.”
"If you do this, it would be another victory for Steve Witkoff, who continues to face the death of weapons to free hostages, negotiate complex diplomatic proposals and serve his country (at a huge economic cost)." Vance wrote in an article on X.
It is not clear when Alexander will release it.
The Hostages and Missing Family Forum headquarters also issued a statement and said after the release of Alexander's release that they "embrace and support the Alexander family."

"If this release is confirmed, the release of Edan Alexander must mark the beginning of a comprehensive agreement that will ensure the freedom of all remaining hostages," the statement said.
“President Trump, you have given all the hostages’ families.
Trump's recent tenor marks his 100th day, with five American families still arresting hostages, urging him to reflect on his strategy and put pressure on Israel and Hamas through economic and diplomatic means to ensure Free all hostages.
In addition, 50 members of Congress sent Trump a letter on May 9 urging him to prioritize the elimination of the remaining hostages.

"As months have passed since the most recent exchange, we must keep the five remaining Americans and additional 54 hostages top of mind. The five American hostages include Edan Alexander, Omer Neutra, Itay Chen, Gadi Haggai and Judi Weinstein Haggai. Only Alexander is believed to be alive while Nuetra, Chen, Haggai and Weinstein Haggai were either murdered on October 7th or in captivity,” the group wrote to President Trump.
“The most solemn responsibility of our administration is to ensure the safety of Americans. With this responsibility in mind, we urge you to use all diplomatic tools to align with our regional allies and partners to ensure the release of Edan and the release of the remains of the American hostages of the deceased as soon as possible. Every day, in captivity, brings nightmares to humanity and family.
Growing up in Tenafly, New Jersey Alexander moved to Israel at the age of 18 and volunteered to join the military service in the Golani brigade of the IDF. He lives with his grandparents in Tel Aviv and Kibbutz Hazor, where he is part of a group of lonely soldiers.

He was kidnapped on the morning of October 7 - a Saturday he didn't need to stay at the base. His mother visited from abroad and like many lonely soldiers, he had the option to go home on the weekend. But he chose to stay, not wanting his comrades to be short-lived guard duties.
There are still 59 hostages in Gaza, with at least 24 people assessed to be alive, including Alexander21 years old after two birthdays imprisoned in Hamas.
