Trump says he will call Putin to discuss stopping the Ukrainian war

Donald Trump said he would speak to Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone on Monday to learn about the end of the war in Ukraine, saying the call would be about "stop 'Bloodbath'".

The U.S. president said in a post about the Truth Society that the phone will be held at 10:00 ET (14:00 GMT), and he will then speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and leaders of some NATO countries.

Russia and Ukraine were unable to make any breakthroughs during their first face-to-face negotiations in Istanbul on Friday, despite agreeing to the prisoner exchange.

If Putin was there, Trump had proposed to attend the talks in Türkiye, but the Russian president refused to attend.

Trump's comments made his proposal to end the war will only happen after he and Putin's face-to-face negotiations.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed to Russian news agencies that preparations are being made to call between Putin and Trump. The two leaders kept making phone calls before the topic.

"The dialogue is underway," Peskov told Tass News Agency.

Trump once said socially: "Hope this will be a productive day, there will be a ceasefire, this very violent war, a war that will never happen will end."

European leaders have been calling on Russia to agree to a 30-day ceasefire in the conflict.

U.S. and Russian leaders are expected to discuss a ceasefire and a possible summit between them.

Moscow was on Saturday's call between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, on Saturday's call, Moscow's actions were slower than Trump wanted.

Ukraine also reiterated its call for a full ceasefire after the talks in Istanbul.

He said the Kremlin made "new and unacceptable demands, including insisting on Kiev withdrawing its troops from much of its own territory" in exchange for a ceasefire, according to Ukrainian officials.

Vladimir Medinsky, the head of the Russian delegation, said they were satisfied with the negotiations and were ready to continue contacting.

A few hours later, a Russian drone hit a passenger bus in the Sumi area and killed nine people - prompting Zelensky to demand sanctions on Moscow to become harder.

He said the attack on the bus was "intentional killing of civilians." Russia has not commented yet, but state media reported that the troops encountered "military installments" in Sumi Province.
