Oman said it was an agent's armistice between Washington and Hushis, and he said neither side would target each other.
President Donald Trump announced that the United States will abandon its daily bombing campaign against Yemen based on its understanding of Houthis, as Oman confirmed that it had established a ceasefire between Washington and armed groups.
"Hothis announced to us that they don't want to fight anymore," Trump told White House reporters at a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday.
Trump claimed that the Yemeni group, which is consistent with Iran, "submitted" and has promised not to attack the transport. Shortly after the Gaza war began, it launched the attacks in October 2023, saying they were supported by the Palestinians.
"I will accept their words and we will stop bombing Houthis immediately," the US president said.
Omanian Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi said the two sides have agreed to a ceasefire.
“The sultanate of Oman then discussed and contacted relevant authorities in the United States and the Republic of Yemen, and efforts to downgrade led to a ceasefire agreement between the two sides,” he wrote in an article on X. ”
“In the future, no other aspects in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, including American ships, will be targeted, thus ensuring freedom of navigation and smooth flow of international commercial transportation.”
"Trump announced the cessation of the US aggression against Yemen and will first be evaluated on the ground," Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, a member of the Supreme Political Committee of Huthis, wrote in an article on X.
"Yemen's action was, and is still, Gaza's support to stop the aggression and bring aid," he added, suggesting that the group would not stop attacks on Israel.
According to Washington, DC, Al Jazeera's Mike Hanna said the U.S. State Department clarified that the agreement had nothing to do with the conflict between Israel and Hussy.
"The U.S. State Department made it very clear that the deal was directly related to Houthi action on the Yemen coast, especially about U.S. shipping," he said.
The ceasefire was announced hours after the Israeli military launched an air strike at Sanaa Airport, causing devastating losses and making it unusable.
Dozens of Israel's Israeli fighter jets also launched several large-scale overnight strikes, which Israel said was a reaction after Houthis hit the perimeter of Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv.
The U.S. military launched air strikes every day in Yemen for nearly two months, destroying infrastructure and killing dozens of people, including children and civilians.
Al Jazeera's Ali Hashem said Iran "possibly" help convince Hossis to lower its attack.
"The Omanis are also the main mediators between the United States and Iran, now Husseus and Americans. There are signs that nuclear negotiations are developing and the framework for sanctions is understood in exchange for nuclear restrictions," he said.
"Iranians may help convince Hotis to relegate, especially if we see this reflected in talks with Iranian Americans. This may be the motivation to inspire nuclear negotiations faster."
