WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump announced Thursday night that he appointed Fox News host Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C., calling her “very qualified for the position” and “in the class.”
Trump declared his Truth Society, mentioning Pirro's former role as prosecutor and judge and said she was "currently co-host of five people, one of the highest rated shows on TV."
NBC News reported on Thursday that Trump strongly considered Pirro for the position. Trump announced earlier in the day that he was withdrawing the nomination of conservative activist Ed Martin to permanently retain federal prosecutors in Washington.
ABC News first reported that Trump is considering taking over the job temporarily. Martin's role as an American lawyer will end on May 20.

A Fox News spokesman said in a statement following Trump's announcement that Piro "is a great addition five Over the past three years, the long-time beloved host of Fox News Media has contributed greatly to our success throughout the 14-year tenure. We wish her all the best in her new role in Washington. ”
Pirro, who pushed for conspiracy theories about voting after Trump's 2020 election losses, filed a lawsuit in a lawsuit filed by the Dominant voting system. Fox News attempted to correct one of Pirro's executive producers' thoughts about her post-2020 election monologue, writing: "It's totally crazy."
Fox News and Dominion reached a $787.5 million settlement in a 2023 defamation lawsuit.
Judicial Committee member RN.C. Senator Thom Tillis said this week that he could not support the "stop theft" organizer Martin in the position, citing concerns about his connection to the January 6 thug.
Trump praised Martin in a truth social position Thursday night and said he would move to the Justice Department as a new director of the Weaponization Task Force, as well as deputy attorney general and attorney Palton.
Trump added that Martin will investigate what he calls “weaponization of the government under the Biden regime.”
Pirro hasn't been in close contact with the defendants in the Capitol attack like Martin, but she feeds some conspiracy theories that caused the 2021 riots.
Three days before the attack, Pirro compared Congress' planned certification of the 2020 election results in the air with soldiers fighting in the American Revolutionary War.
"These hungry, tired, cold, defeated soldiers know that this is the moment for them to stand up and fight for freedom. For many, January 6 is such a moment," she said. "Because we are all told to shut up and move on, January 6 will tell us whether Congress is willing to fight for the American battles that these soldiers are fighting for, and I and the one I believe."
Three days after the attack, Piro condemned the incident. Say they are "Repentantly reprehensible criminals," she said, and members of the movement should stop looking for others to blame.
"Take off the veil of politics. To be completely objective. Anyone who watches this must condemn it."
