Trump inauguration: Who expects to attend, who boycotts?

Former presidents, politicians, tech giants, world leaders and others will gather in Washington, D.C., on Monday for President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, while some key figures will skip the event entirely.

By tradition, most outgoing presidents attend the inauguration ceremony at the White House. Outgoing President Joe Biden told the MeidasTouch network last month that he would attend Trump's second inauguration — even though Trump did not attend Biden's inauguration four years ago. Additionally, the White House confirmed that first lady Jill Biden will attend.

Likewise, three living former presidents, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama, have all confirmed they will attend the inauguration festivities, according to the Associated Press. Former first ladies Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton will also attend Trump's second inauguration with their spouses.

But some prominent Democrats won't attend the inauguration. Former first lady Michelle Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., announced this week that they would skip the event.

A spokesman for the Obamas did not provide The Associated Press with further information about Michelle Obama's absence, although the former first lady also did not attend the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter earlier this month.

Likewise, tech giants including Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and TikTok CEO Shou Chew Will also be present and sit on the podium with other VIP guests.

A source familiar with the plans told Fox News that Digital Chew received an invitation to the inaugural committee. The New York Times broke the news that Zhou would be attending.

Trump also extended invitations to a number of world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Incoming White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told "Fox & Friends" in December that Xi received the invitation after Trump said he "would like" the Chinese leader to attend the inauguration.

"This is an example of President Trump engaging in open dialogue with leaders of countries that are not only our allies but also our adversaries and competitors. We've seen this before in the first term," Levitt said . "He was willing to talk to anyone and he always put America's interests first."

Although Xi Jinping will not attend, China's Foreign Ministry announced on Friday that Chinese Vice President Han Zheng will visit Washington to attend the event.

The Associated Press also reported that Trump invited Argentine President Javier Milley and El Salvador President Nayib Bukele. Likewise, CBS first reported that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had been invited to the inauguration, but Hungarian media reported that he would not attend, Politico reported.

However, Mire and Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni are expected to attend, according to Politico.

This look is unique. The Associated Press previously reported that no foreign leader has attended a U.S. inauguration ceremony, according to State Department historical records.

Carrie Underwood, Village People and Lee Greenwood are also scheduled to perform musical performances at the inauguration. A Trump transition spokesman told Fox News Digital that Underwood will perform "America the Beautiful" at the swearing-in ceremony for Trump and President-elect J.D. Vance.

Trump and former first lady Melania Trump were absent from Biden's 2021 inauguration. Other presidents have also missed the inauguration of their successors. Six other former presidents, dating as far back as John Adams, also did not attend the incoming president's inauguration, according to the White House Historical Association.
