President-elect Donald Trump's visit to Washington, D.C., after being sworn in is an opportunity to explore history in the making in the nation's capital.
According to the DC Tourism Bureau, the city welcomed nearly 26 million visitors in 2023, setting a new record.
Kristin Petersen, a travel consultant with Travelmation, told Fox News Digital that if travelers are looking for indoor activities, there are plenty of options near Washington, D.C.

"Obviously, when you're in town, you're going to want to go to the Smithsonian museums along the mall, and the National Museum of American History, where you can see the Star-Spangled Banner and the first lady's gown," Peterson said.

This is the 20th Amendment to the Constitution, which states that the term of every elected President of the United States begins at noon on January 20 following the presidential election year.

“(Visitors) absolutely need to make reservations for the National Archives,” Peterson advised.
For a family affair, the International Spy Museum welcomes all ages.
Peterson said it's an interesting museum.

It is recommended to reserve tickets in advance, with general admission tickets starting at $30.69.

If visitors want to get out and about, Peterson recommends heading to the National Arboretum.
"Another place we love to visit for some warmth and beauty...it's the perfect destination in the winter while everything outside is blustery," she shared.
The National Mall contains the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the World War II Memorial.

“Keep in mind that all the monuments are outside, but they are definitely worth a visit if you dress appropriately,” Peterson said.

Peterson added that Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, is a "must visit."
President-elect Trump will attend a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery on Sunday, FOX 56 reports.
