Trump agrees to "friendly meeting" with Keir Starmer after calling surprise | Donald Trump

Donald Trump once again spoke to Keir Starmer because it seemed like a call from the U.S. president and the British Prime Minister and his team had no expectations.

The phone message Thursday night came in a statement on Downing Street about Starmer meeting with British TV producer Mark Burnett, who has been appointed as the UK's special envoy.

Amid the details of the conversation between the two, Statement No. 10 said Steamer “received President Trump’s call and discussed his upcoming visit to the United States.”

It provides no more details, but the 10th source described the call as "improvised" and unexpected. It is understood that Trump knew the meeting was taking place and asked his assistant to call the cell phone in the room.

The U.S. Embassy in the UK posted a photo on Twitter, showing Starmer at the dining table with others using her mobile phone. "During dinner, @Potus called his envoy and he passed the phone to the Prime Minister."

"He asked for a meeting, I agree to a meeting, we will have a friendly meeting, it's very good," Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday.

"A lot of good things happened to us. But he asked to come to see me and I just accepted his question."

Responding to further questions about the date, he added: “Soon, I think he wants to come next week or next week.”

The call is believed to have re-emphasized the often free diplomatic attitude that Trump and his White House have accepted, which is brief and only Starmer hopes to visit the United States soon for a formal meeting with Trump.

Nonetheless, if warm relations with Trump, who once praised the Prime Minister, could lead Britain to evade further tariffs or other often capricious U.S. government fines, No. 10 will still welcome this as it hopes Starmer's tentative manner. The two spoke more formally over the phone last month.

Trump appointed Burnett's slightly vague character in December. The TV producer is responsible for a series of popular shows for ours, especially the apprenticeship, which makes Trump stand out and arguably paves the way for his political career. Burnett also created or produced programs like Survivors, Shark Tanks, and Sounds.

“Mr. Burnett and the Prime Minister agreed to the uniqueness and particular nature of the UK-US relations, the strength of our alliance and the warmth of the ties between the two countries,” Statement No. 10 said.

“Mr Burnett reflects on his personal connection to the UK and his mother’s experience working as a waitress 30 years ago.

“They highlighted the great potential for stronger collaboration on trade, technology and cultural issues between the United States and the United Kingdom and looked forward to working together.”
