President Donald Trump has raised his clearest sign that he will leave the White House at the end of his second term without trying to extend his accommodation, which led him to acknowledge the restrictions in an exclusive interview with NBC News's exclusive interview with "With the Press Conference."
Trump also highlighted several other Republican stars, who said he had the ability to carry Maga Mantle, who became the Republican-elected leader, not only mentioned Vice President JD Vance, but also Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has become a central player in the second administration.
"I will be president for eight years and I will be president for two terms. I always think it's important," Trump said in an interview aired on Sunday.
Trump had previously told Welk in March that he was "no joke" about his consideration for his third run, and he said again in a recent interview that he had received strong demands from allies to run again. Despite these pleas, Trump told Welk that he knew the reality of the obstacle.
"As far as I know, this is something you don't allow to do that. I don't know it's constitutional, they don't allow you to do or anything else," Trump said.
The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution says: "No one shall serve in the President's Office more than twice." It would be extremely difficult to amend the Constitution to repeal this restriction and would require support for two-thirds or two-thirds of the state legislatures in the House and Senate. Both routes then require approval from the state three-quarters.
Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn). Rep. Dan Goldman, a Democrat in New York, served as chief attorney in Trump’s first impeachment, proposed a resolution to urge his colleagues to reaffirm the 22nd Amendment ban in the third term.
Trump told Welk that he did not have a formal meeting specifically for a pathway to establish a third term, but he heard "different concepts" about potential options, including the legitimate suspicious strategy of Vance seeking a presidency and then passing the role to Trump.
“Others said, ‘You can vote in writing,” Trump added, despite the constitutional restrictions.
The Trump organization suffered a fever last month after part of the president's two adult sons began selling the Trump 2028 brand's Red Hat. The hats are listed in $50: "The future looks bright! Rewrite the rules with Trump's 2028 High Crown Hat."
Despite such descriptions - and its allegations of "rewriting rules" - Trump said his purpose was to finally pass the torch before the next presidential election.
"There are a lot of people selling 2028 hats," Trump said. "But that's not what I want to do. I hope to have four great years and give it to someone, ideally a great Republican, a great Republican who can push it."
Trump said that among Republican stars, he could be responsible for the Maga brand (who he called it the greatest political movement in history) was Vance. Welk asked if Vance would be his successor, and Trump praised his vice president without making any promises.
Trump added: "I don't want to be involved. I think he's a great, great person. Marco is great. There are a lot of great people."
He also stressed that such discussions are "too early".
"But of course, you'd say that someone is the vice president, and if that person is outstanding, I think that person has an advantage."
Trump refused to be attracted to recognize or label Vance as an anointed successor while still expressing appreciation for his work. In February, Trump told Fox News's Bret Baier that Vance was "very capable", but he didn't necessarily see Vance as his successor.
Trump also named Rubio as the "great" potential Republican leader. Trump's confidence in the former Florida senator is reflected in Rubio's wide portfolio in the administration: he was hired by the president as head of performance at the National Archives, acting chief executive of the U.S. International Development Agency, and, more recently, international security adviser, Trump replaced Trump, who said he would nominate for the UN announcement.
“Marco is doing a great job,” the interview said as he turned to Waltz. He added that while he didn't want Rubio to take on the latest role in the "long-term", he did not hesitate to replace him.
"Right now, Marco isn't staying - Marco is very busy doing other things.
Welk asked Rubio if he could continue with both jobs “indefinitely”,” Trump said: “He can, yes. He can. But I think he might even see - because it's a little different. But at the same time, he will handle it. ”
The "huge" Republican Trump field says that it could be a former runner in 2028, and he says that including as many as 20 people does not seem to be the main focus of his second president in months. He suggested Welker, who is more focused on a more direct election, in mid-2026, where Republicans will have to fight historical odds to maintain control over both houses of Congress.
Opposition to Trump’s rapid use of executive power to reshape the federal government’s opposition – from efforts to target diversity, equity and inclusion to imposing new tariffs on dozens of countries, putting political pressure on political terms, Trump’s approval ratings have steadily declined in his first 100 days.
The economic consequences of tariffs in particular seem politically harmful, while Trump’s handling of tariffs is slightly lower, compared to other issues in recent public inquiry, including CNBC and NBC News keeping polls polls.
Trump told Welk that he plans to play a "very active" role in the mid-cycle, especially through his fundraising capabilities. He downplayed that his agenda could cost Republicans one or two congresses.
"If you look at it, then the people who won the presidency ended up losing the House, losing the Senate is unanimous. I think we're going to turn it around. I think we'll easily turn it around."
