Alaska's congressional delegation praised President Donald Trump and Home Secretary Doug Burgum for starting to revoke a competitive era rule that restricts oil and gas exploration in the resource-rich Article 1002 of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).

Senator Dan Sullivan said Burgum announced the move at a town hall in Utkivik (former Barrow) in the northern end of the vast state, and locals “understand anyone more than anyone” why responsible oil production is key to their communities making a living.

Sullivan called the Biden-era domination “illegal” and said that it was originally intended to be an area of energy production in the country to become “de facto wilderness.”

"Responsible resource development has changed the lives of Iupiaat people, supporting the construction of clinics, gymnasiums, water infrastructure - most Americans take it for granted."

Burgum said his agency determined that 2024 rule exceeded the boundaries of the federal government under the 1976 Oil Reserves Act and also constituted an "unnecessary barrier to responsible energy development in Alaska's national oil reserves."

“Congress is clear: Alaska’s national oil reserves are being shelved to support U.S. energy security through responsible development,” he said.

Rep. Nick Begich III called the decision a "major victory" and said he would work with Trump to ensure responsible resource development.

Senator Lisa Murkowski added: “It’s not only the people who support responsible development, but also the victory for those who believe in the rule of law.”

She continued: “The 2024 rule of management clearly violates the law, establishing restrictions and presumptions of development, as part of the last government’s efforts to turn the North Slope into a huge district of the federal wilderness.”

“Repealing the rule will not undermine our world-class environmental standards, but it will allow Alaska to generate more energy as Congress intends. The result will be a good job for Alaskas, more affordable energy for the U.S. and a significant revenue to the government.”

In January, Gov. Mike Dunleavy told Fox News Digital that the final congressional sale sold land in Anwr in failure - describing it as the breakup of the last administration towards the last border.

"These leases should be implemented sincerely in the established historical process. Obviously, the cruel acts of the Biden administration against Alaska have been cruel over the past four years," he said.

At the time, Merkowski also said that a form of home affairs official now "publicly acknowledged" in a working group that the process of setting restrictions on ANWR was intentionally avoiding the Congressional Review Act.

The law has led other Senate Republicans to withdraw several Biden-era EPA actions last month with a simple floor vote.
