Trump administration agrees to restrict Doge access to Treasury payment system

Justice Department lawyers have agreed to temporarily limit staff related to Elon Musk's government efficiency, thereby accessing information in the Treasury payment system.

The agreement was filed in the event of a group of union members and retirees suing the Treasury department, alleging that the department alleges access to the federal government’s massive payment and collection system and the personal data contained therein – a violation of federal privacy laws.

The Trump administration filed a motion Wednesday night trying to enter the proposed order detailing the agreed terms.

The proposed order says: "The defendant will not have access to any payment records or payment systems within or within the Fiscal Services Department or internal or internal."

The order will allow the exceptions to the Treasury Department’s two special government employees - Tom Krause and Marko Elez, saying they can access as needed to "fulfil their Responsibilities”, provided that “only such access payment records can only be read.”

In subsequent litigation hearings, restricted access will remain in effect.

The lawsuit argues that newly founded Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent should not give anyone access to the security system. Bessent “decided to work behind closed doors to allow individuals not participating in government financial transactions to take root in the Bureau’s records. Accessing these records is illegal.”

"And, the longer the unauthorized third parties still have no access to the private information of the plaintiff members, the greater the irreparable harm. After all, as long as the sensitive data of the plaintiff members still has access to Mr. Musk and other members of Doge, These data are revealed to more unauthorized third parties, whether by chance or intentional.”

The lawsuit calls for temporary restriction orders unless the Treasury Department "discloses information about an individual" to guide the agency to "retrieve and maintain any such information that Doge or individuals associated with it have obtained."

At a hearing Wednesday before U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, the Justice Department attorney denied that the Treasury Department was sharing personal information about Americans.

"The allegations that the information is being shared with third parties outside the Treasury are incorrect," said lawyer Bradley Humphreys. He said two general governors who were classified as special government employees. The appointed person, who is the same identity as Musk holds, has been granted access to the system, but these two employees or any other Doge employees working in the Ministry of Finance have no plans to share information with Musk or outside the Ministry of Finance. Anyone.

Doge's actions in Musk (a tech billionaire and key ally of President Donald Trump) prompted fierce criticism from Democrats who portray Musk as an unelected bureaucrat who Accumulated overwhelming power and reshaped the federal government without the necessary checks and balances.

"We don't sarcastic words here: a choiceless, irresponsible billionaire with a huge conflict of interest, deep connections with China and a grinding axe to wear and perceived enemies are hijacking our country The most sensitive financial data system and its checkbook," Senator Patty Murray, Senator Patty Murray, Senator D-wash. said in a floor speech Wednesday.

Musk defended it as “an urgent need” and his efforts cut wasteful spending.

"The Governor is the bureaucratic preparation for the timber," he said on X on Monday.

White House officials said Musk was working as a "special government employee" in the Trump administration, meaning he is not a full-time federal worker. The classification also shows that Musk's employment period in the White House is limited to one-third of the year.

On the first day of his second term, Trump renamed U.S. digital services to the Department of Administration Efficiency. He had previously announced that Musk would help lead the advisory group.

Musk targeted the elimination of the US international development agencies, prompting the government to provide humanitarian assistance to nearly half the distance. He also turned his attention to other wings of the federal government, including the Consumer Financial Protection Agency.
