Trey Hendrickson says Bangladeshi cuts contract negotiations

Cincinnati - Bangladesh defensive end Trey Hendrickson said the team had cut off contract talks due to controversy over the new deal.

"There was no communication between my camp and the organization after the NFL draft in April," Hendrickson said in a statement to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday.

Hendrickson also said the offer from the Bengals “does not reflect the vision we share and is promised” if he continues to play at a high level. According to Hendrickson, discussions on a new deal have stalled.

"They used collaboration to get me home and into the team anymore, but instead stopped communicating. I have been eagerly awaiting a solution to this situation, but it is hard to do without discussion and a clear lack of interest in achieving common goals," Hendrickson said in a statement.

Trey Hendrickson issued a statement to ESPN today: "There is no communication between my camp and the draft postal in the organization. The pre-draft offer did not reflect the vision we shared and if I continued to be in the senior game, it was guaranteed last offseason. The coach is... The coach is... pic.twitter.com/2MKBL60ATG

Hendrickson, 30, is about to enter his final year of contract and be his best season in the NFL. He led the league with 17.5 sacks last season and was selected for the Associated Press All-Pro team, the first choice the Bangladean has chosen since 2015. Cincinnati's other All-Pro choice Ja'marr Chase received a new $161 million contract last season, making him the company's highest-paid non-Quaid Nor-Queal Back Back Backs history.

Hendrickson made the Pro Bowl in each of his four seasons in Cincinnati. In 2023, he extended the one-year extension in a four-year, $60 million deal in 2021. He asked for a deal last offseason, after the team chose not to give him a new deal. He eventually reported voluntary exercise.

Hendrickson's comments on Monday are the latest public development in the ongoing contract legend. Hendrickson expressed his disappointment at the NFL League of the Year comments against Bengals executive Katie Blackburn at the annual league meeting in contract negotiations with the team.

Blackburn said on April 1: "I think he should be happy at a certain rate, maybe he doesn't think he'll be happy.

Hendrickson said during his appearance at McAfee's show that he was disappointed with Blackburn's comments, "because communication has been poor over the past few months." He also said the Bangladeshi did not communicate directly with his agent about the contract and said "it was a little frustrating."

Bengal coach Zac Taylor did not update Hendrickson's contract last Friday when he met with the media after the team's rookie mini camp.

Hendrickson will receive a base salary of $15.8 million this season (the final year of his contract). Hendrickson said during McAfee's show that he wasn't going to be the highest-paid defensive end or "first" to reach a deal, but there was a pressing thing to do. Bangladeshis will start organized team activities later this month.

Hendrickson isn't the only defensive end in the roster that wants to solve the contract problem. Shemar Stewart was the 17th pick in this year's draft, and he did not attend last week's rookie mini camp because his contract has not been signed.
