JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Add quarterback Trevor Lawrence to people who are excited about the potential impact of rookie catcher/cornerback Travis Hunter on the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Especially for the offense that only 17.9 points per game in 2024.
"Ball skills, chase, he's very explosive," Lawrence said after the Jaguars' first team event. "Just not realizing the explosiveness of his cuts in and out. He's impressive, we've connected a few times.
"It's just getting better and better. We've been working together for a few days, so we have some time to really dial out the details."
Lawrence said the first thing he noticed Hunter was his uninterrupted motor.
"He has a lot of juice," Lawrence said. "He can run all day. A lot of energy. I love it. Always pick up the juice every day, high motor, and can walk.
“It’s like a kid running around all day.
Hunter spent most of his time working with the offense, although he participated in defensive meetings during rookie mini camp. Last week, he also spent some time at cornerback, the last part of the offseason conditioning program phase 2.
On Monday, he worked exclusively on the receiver during an OTA open to the media this week. He was the target of one of Lawrence's two interceptions, the result of a high voyage. The two also connected multiple times in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11.
In the offense of head coach Liam Coen, it will take some time to make everyone feel comfortable, but Lawrence said Hunter is improving. He also added that he likes the thoroughness of the new system.
"It has a lot of answers," Lawrence said. "It's great. I mean, it brings a lot of things to the players. You have to know your stuff, but it gives you all the answers. You don't feel like you're stuck in a drama that doesn't succeed. It gives us a lot of answers, and we often change the presentation to make a lot of things look the same.
“I like a lot of things, which is definitely different from any system I’ve learned before.”
