Former "Beverly Hills Royal Housewife" husband Tom Girardi was sentenced to seven years and three months in prison in Los Angeles court Tuesday.
The 86-year-old was also ordered to pay more than $2 million in compensation to the victims.
Last year, the lawyer and estranged husband of "Rhobh" star Erika Jayne, 86, was found guilty of stealing millions of dollars from former clients, with $3 million of which over more than a decade of causing relatives of the victims of lion crashers in Java Sea in 2018.
A federal jury is charged with four counts of wire fraud by Girardi after 13 days of trial.
Federal prosecutors said the former high-profile attorney used his identity to steal money from clients and he represented in cases involving serious injuries.
Girardi is known for its groundwater pollution lawsuit against Pacific Gas and Electrical Corporation in 1993. The case inspired the 2000 film Erin Brockovich, which starred Julia Roberts.
He also appears regularly in the Bravo Reality series "Rhobh" and his now wife, Jayne, one of the main stars of the show. Federal prosecutors said Girardi transferred more than $25 million from its law firm's operating accounts to cover the fees of EJ Global, a company that makes up for Jayne's entertainment career. The money is used for luxury cars, private jet travel, jewelry and exclusive clubs, prosecutors said.
Jayne, 53, filed for divorce in 2020 after allegations against Girardi appeared and said on the show that the divorce is still in progress due to his mental and physical decline. She was nominated in a lawsuit that claimed she learned about Girardi's embezzlement in the Lion case but she insisted she was unaware that he had committed any fraud. Jayne was fired in 2022.
Although his lawyer argued that he had Alzheimer's disease, Girardi was considered suitable for trial early last year, which they said was confusing and had memory problems. Girardi has lived in an auxiliary care facility throughout the trial and is awaiting sentencing.
Jayne prepares for a performance at the city's famous Koko Club on the estranged husband's verdict day in London. In an interview with Vogue UK, which was also published on Tuesday, Jayne talked about the rise after the Dark Ages.
“We’ve all gone through things – you have to realize that you’re not the only thing,” she told The Outlet. “And, you have to find your willingness to follow the baby steps until you feel more comfortable, these baby steps can last a long time.”
