Tom Felton reprises Draco Malfoy’s role – this time on Broadway.
The actor announced exclusively today that he will be the beloved villain of the Harry Potter series in the Broadway production Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, starting 19 weeks from November.
"It's a very pinch of my situation," Felton told Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin on June 5. "I kept thinking about dreaming. I let go of the role 16 years ago and now I'm back to my father's shoes in a new story."
Felton, 37, will be the first member of the original film actor, the first member of the Broadway show that took place 19 years after the original series, as Draco, Harry, Ron, Harry, Harry, and Hermione are sending their kids to Hogwarts.
Felton later told com Today: “'Potter' was a huge part of my childhood and now I can go back.”
"This script is an independent story from the 'Potter' movie I grew up with. We started in 19... Now we are no longer kids. We are actually parents. So, it's an old character for me and it's very stepping into new, strange territory. I know him very well. I don't know him very much.
The character’s revenge marks the first time Felton will portray Draco in nearly 15 years, and Felton’s Broadway debut.
"It became very, very easy to get emotional," Felton said. "I immediately cried when they put my blonde wig on the theater production. It was like the explosion in the past. ... I never thought I would see it again."
Felton will perform at the Lyric Theatre in New York City from November 11, 2025 to March 22, 2026. Fans can sign up for first-time access tickets, which will be unlocked for pre-sales starting at 11 a.m. on June 10. Tickets will be available to the public on June 12 at 11 a.m. ET.
Since its 2016 London premiere in 2016, the highest-grossing non-music drama in Broadway history, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has sold more than 10 million tickets worldwide. This is the fourth longest running Broadway game ever, currently in London, New York, New York, Hamburg and Tokyo.
Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, the producers behind the Broadway work, said in a statement that they can’t wait to see Felton portray “again the same depth, gravity and humanity he’s taken all the way to Draco.”
"This is not our cultural moment, it is not a cultural moment of nostalgia, evolution and emotion," said Friedman and Callender. "Tom returned to Hogwarts generations to bring a new life back into a beloved story. We are happy to welcome Tom back to "home," but also bring a new family: our Broadway company."
HBO announced that it would adapt JK Rowling's books into a TV series earlier this year, which would be a restart of the "Harry Potter" craze. Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout were selected for Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively, after the director watched thousands of children’s auditions.
