Till’s Independence Nicolette Boele wins Bradfield’s Liberal Candidate After Dramatic Narrative | Australian Election 2025

Independent Nicolette Boele won Bradfield's Sydney seat, defeating liberal Gisele Kapterian by 26 votes.

The Australian Election Commission said that before the order was recalculated, Kaputrien won with an initial distribution preference of 8 votes. The final result was announced Wednesday afternoon, following a ruling in the form of a vote.

Bradfield was the last prominent seat in the May 3 election, but the Liberals could still challenge the outcome in a controversial court of return.

Boele thanked Kapterian and AEC in a statement.

“I am honored to be elected temporarily as the next member of Bradfield.

“This result belongs to our community. More than 1,450 volunteers gathered to revitalize our democracy from scratch. After 75 years, Bradfield has long held a place in a political party.

“I also want to thank Gisele Kapterian for his civilization as a candidate in this close match.”

Boele said she did not take responsibility easily and represented the seat with "integrity, courage and care."

At the end of the recording, Boele's total vote accounted for 50.01%, compared to Kapterian's 49.99% before.

Kapterian said in a statement that she will "review" the original counts and recaps.

"I thank the AEC officials who are doing this important work. I would also like to sincerely thank many volunteers in the party and many who have carefully examined the counting process over the past few weeks," she wrote.

"This recalculation yielded different results - although I was leading the way at the end of the original count, Ms. Boele is now leading after recalculation here. I will now review both counts carefully."

Captrian did not congratulate in her statement.

Boele was declared interim champion on May 19 after leading Kapterian with a 40-minute lead on May 19. After the first full preference allocation was completed, Kapterian led by eight votes. The seat has been occupied by the Liberal Party since its inception in 1949.

Recalculation includes a new count of all first-first votes, a re-examination of all informal votes, a complete narrative of the preferred counts for both groups of candidates, and a complete allocation of preferences.

The AEC said the process was conducted in front of candidate-appointed examiners to ensure transparency.

Captrian was appointed assistant shadow minister at the front desk of Sussan Ley last month, waiting for a recalculation. She is expected to be replaced by another liberal.

Within 40 days after returning to the election order, any candidate or voter in the seat can "petition" its results. The process involves a formal complaint to the court that returns to the disputed return. For national elections, this usually means the High Court.

Boele was supported by the Climate 200 Group at Simon Holmesà Court, and liberals gave a large amount of resources to the seats held by Paul Fletcher.

Seats occupy the North Shore suburbs, including St Leonards, Killara and Wahroonga, respectively, and border with voters of Warringah and Mackellar held by Tel independents Zali Steggall and Sophie Scamps.

Kapterian was pre-elected as a seat by the Liberals in January, defeating the businessman and defeating the businessman to parliamentary rival Warren Mundine.
