The 2025 Tony Awards on Broadway’s biggest night will earn the highest box office in one season.

Tony Award nominees make history

Daniel Dae Kim is Tony's first Asian candidate in his best performance, the main actor he played in "Yellow Face".

"I love that we are considered Asian American on Broadway, and I think that's for where we are in society, especially today, but I long for that day to be so common and understand that people of any race, religion or gender identity can be nominated for these things," Kim said. "I always wanted to play Henry V, and you know we can always dream. These dreams are now a reality."

Kara Young also made history with a glittering presence in "Purpose", which brought her into four games. She was the first black actress to receive four nominations for Best Featured Actress in the drama.

“It’s a great honor to be part of an incredible community,” Young said. “The world is forced to believe that we should be divided and we are doing art, and that’s what brings people together.”

"English" has two actresses, Tala Ashe and Marjan Neshat, who were nominated and offered first place in their category.

"I played Elham in 'English' and nominated for Tony's featured actress. Marjan Neshat and I were the first Middle Eastern actor to receive such nominations," Ash said. "Yes, if you're Iranian, you can get something out of it. If you've ever tried to learn a second language, you'll definitely do it as an immigrant."

"Oh, Mary" creator Cole Escola is the first non-binary champion and the best actor in the drama.

"It's so overwhelming, and now I'm carrying my little Tony pins, two nomination pins," Escola said.

Then, there was one and the only one who won six Tonys, Audra McDonald, more than any other performer. McDonald has been a star, again nominated for Gypsy, her record No. 11.
