There is a new city in Texas, Elon Musk's Spacex

Brownsville, Texas - Texas has a brand new city called the Constellation.

Saturday's vote to decide whether to turn a part of South Texas into a new city centered on Elon Musk's SpaceX, bringing victory to billionaires and their Rockets. As expected, the measure passed through extensive support, paving the way for the newly formed city, almost entirely by SpaceX employees and those who have connected with the company.

The initial voting statistics were 173, with 4 oppositions; the measure passed only requires 143 votes.

"This measure is statistically impossible," said Remi Garza, Chief Executive of the Cameron County Election, Saturday night. "There is a new city in Cameron County."

Now that the vote has passed, the county’s commissioner will draw results within two weeks, Garza said. The judge will then assign orders to announce the election results and the orders for the formal establishment of the new city.

The new city of Starbase covers about 1.5 square miles in the southern tip of Texas, a coastal area located on the Mexican border. The area is home to SpaceX's headquarters, where the company builds boosters and engines and launches giant Starship rockets on test flights.

The vote was a much-needed victory for Musk, who has faced widespread opposition over the past few months for his involvement with President Donald Trump’s administration. Musk was installed as head of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and oversees the overall layoffs and layoffs across federal agencies.

In response, protests against Musk broke out across the country and profits broke out at billionaire’s electric car company Tesla.

Now SpaceX will own the corporate town that Musk first publicly proposed in 2021.

In addition to merging the new city, Saturday's election also selected Starbucks' first mayor, Bobby Pedden, and two city commissioners - Jordan Buss and Jenna Petrzelka. Candidates for all three positions were unopposed, and all three positions were SpaceX employees.

According to county election records, 283 people are eligible to vote in Saturday's Cameron County special election. Eligibility is determined based on whether the resident’s house falls under the proposed new city boundary.

Neither SpaceX nor Musk detailed the purpose of incorporating cities around Rockets' operations. However, there are speculations that having greater municipal control over the area could ease bureaucracy and restrictions surrounding SpaceX testing and rocket launches.

Currently, SpaceX must obtain permission from Cameron County authorities to close the highway and close public access to Boca Chica Beach and Boca Chica State Park to ensure people's safety during the rocket launch.

The frequent closures have prompted legal complaints against SpaceX and have sparked protests from local residents and activists, including the Carrizo Comecrudo tribe in Texas, the South Texas Environmental Justice Network and the joint protests of border workers, as reported by CNBC.

Now that SpaceX is operating in the newly formed city of Starbase, things may change soon, although perhaps without resistance.

Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino told NBC News.

Trevino said any changes to the established procedures are unnecessary.

"If it's not broken, there's no need to be repaired."
