Soap opera veteran Denise Alexander, the most famous Lesley Webber at the "General Hospital" and Susan Hunter Martin died on "Our Days."
“I regret hearing the death of Denise Alexander. She broke the barriers on screen and portrayed Dr. Lesley Webber, one of the earliest female doctors on TV during the day for nearly fifty years.” “Reappearing her role in recent years means a lot and I’m honored to be working with her. On behalf of the entire General Hospital family, I express my heartfelt sympathy for her family, friends and long-time fans. May she rest in peace.”
Alexander's acting career dates back to the early 1950s when she made her debut on Broadway in "Childtime" and starred in TV classics such as "The Father Knows the Best", "Twilight" and "The Danny Kaye Show" and "Danny Kaye Show" which changed her career trajectory in 1960 when she joined CBS Soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap.
Two years later, she was a daytime player for the ABC soap pilot called "Emergency Hospital" and later called "General Hospital" but not Lesley Webber. Instead, she was played by Susan Martin in 1966's "Our Days" and her roots were there for the next seven years. When she chose to leave the popular soap in 1973, fans were no Happy.
That was when Alexander joined the "GH". During that time, the ratings weren't the best, and ABC wanted to add exciting new characters and stories. Alexander's Lesley became one of the hottest triangles during the day - Lesley, Rick Webber (played by Chris Robinson) and Monica Bard (played by the late Leslie Charleson, who died earlier this year). Lesley is also in trouble because she admits to the crime committed by David Hamilton in the murder of her daughter Laura (Genie Francis). Her performance won the nomination for Alexander as an outstanding actress in the Daytime Drama Series.
Fans were once again angry when the storyline called for Leslie to be killed in a car accident. It was not until 12 years later in 1996 that it was revealed that in the true soap manner, Leslie was actually alive. Between the two soaps, Alexander appears on NBC's "Another World" opposite her former "GH" husband Robinson.
Alexander appeared in the "General Hospital" in 2021 for the last time.
