The future of Texans QB CJ Stroud is influenced by Brock Purdy News

CJ Stroud's future with the Houston Texans may be shaped by the recent NFL quarterback deal.

The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a five-year, $265 million contract with quarterback Brock Purdy, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The deal includes a guarantee of $165.5 million in the first three years and a possible $215 million in the first four periods. It runs through the 2030 season and guarantees a $181 million signing.

Purdy is now ranked fourth in terms of quarterback’s average annual value (AAV), tied for $53 million a year with Jared Goff.

The news has brought the NFL to ripples, especially in Houston.

With Star QB CJ Stroud's rookie deal only two years left and a five-year option likely to be exercised in 2027, the Texans will soon need to prepare to distribute their own major expansion.

In his first NFL season, the former Ohio State excellence threw 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and five interceptions to win the 2023 NFL Rookie of the Year award.

In his second season, he played 3,727 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Although the numbers seem like a step back, Stroud still performed well, despite the injury and the continued support around him being less consistent.

Stroud's work in his first two seasons is nearly the same as Purdy's figures. Although Stroud maintains an advantage in overall pass yardage, it is also worth noting that Purdy played seven games in seven games due to his late arrival in 2022.

His performance and leadership have solidified his position as a franchise, and his final extension is expected to be the same as Purdy's deal.

The news brings some expectations to Texans fans as the front desk will have to deal with the shuffle finances to keep their guys going.
