The fighter plane dropped from the Harry S Truman. Yemen's Hushis assesses Sanaa Airport losses

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - A defense official told the Associated Press Wednesday that an F/A-18 fighter landed on the ship on the Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea, forcing two of its pilots to eject.

Tuesday's incident marked the latest accident in the deployment of Truman, which is crucial in the U.S. air strikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen.

On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump and Oman's foreign minister said a ceasefire with Houthis, who will no longer target ships in the Red Sea corridor, which the rebels immediately acknowledged.

Meanwhile, Husseth continued to assess the losses of Israeli air strikes in Yemeni rebel-controlled Sanaa during the day.

The official said the F/A-18 Super Hornet landed on Truman after the flight but "the arrest failed," and the official spoke on anonymously because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the incident currently under investigation.

"Address" refers to the hook system where the aircraft lands on the carrier, which captures the wire rope on the flight deck. It is not clear which part of the system fails.

The official added that two pilots on the ship were later rescued by helicopters and received minor injuries in the incident. No one was injured on the flight deck.

CNN first reported this incident.

Tuesday's incident was the latest, the Navy lost F/A-18, costing about $60 million. In April, another F/A-18 fighter slid off Truman's hangar deck and fell into the Red Sea. The crew members in the pilot seat of the Super Hornet and the small towing tractor jumped.

In December last year, the navigated cruiser USS Gettysburg USS Gettysburg mistakenly shot down the F/A-18 after the ship had shot down several Houthi drones and rebel-launched anti-ship cruise missiles earlier. Two pilots in the incident also survived.

In February, Truman collided with a merchant ship near the Egyptian port.

Truman, based in Norfolk, Virginia, saw its deployments extend multiple times during the Houthi Airstrike campaign. USS Carl Vinson Prircraft recently joined it by an aircraft carrier operating in the Arabian Sea.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell wrote on social platform X that an investigation is underway, “The plane was not hit by Houthis.”

He added: “Harry S. Truman (Harry S.

Israeli attacks on Sanaa International Airport on Tuesday destroyed the airport. Airport chief Khaled Al-Shaif told Houthis' al-masirah satellite news channel that the Israeli strike destroyed the airport's terminal and left the crater on the runway.

He said at least six passenger planes were hit, including three that belonged to Yemeni Airlines. This leaves the airline with only one feature plane, simply because it flew to Jordan’s Amman earlier that day. He puts the overall loss at $500 million.

Al-Shaif said the airport has now been discontinued due to damage.

Houthis has been conducting ongoing missile and drone attacks on commercial and warships in the region, what the group claims to be in an effort to end Israel's attack on Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

From November 2023 to January 2025, Houthis targeted 100 merchant ships with missiles and drones, sank two and killed four sailors. This greatly reduces the trade flow through the Red Sea Corridor, and usually sees $1 trillion in goods passing through it every year.

Husses stopped the attacks in a self-imposed ceasefire until the United States launched a widespread attack on the rebels in mid-March.
